...well go drag up a lawn chair and watch the fireworks.

At least they spent all their money to go up in smoke in 5 seconds or less....not a dime of it was your money, but you get to see the FREE show.

Minnesota has allowed fireworks for only a couple of years now. Granted the only ones legal are sparklers & a few other ones that are a real joke. The REAL fireworks are sold in South Dakota and many Minnesotans travel every July 4th to purchase from SD.

The best firecrackers that I have ever seen/purchased were for sale when I lived in Romania during the early 1990's. These were the real deal. Think M-80 firecrackers on steroids,. Many, many Romanians lost their whole hand or even their arm every year while detonating these monsters.

I lived on the 6th floor of an apartment building in Bucharest & I used to toss these H bombs off the balconey onto the street below. Needless to say, the people on the 1st & 2nd floor were not real happy when I would detonate a few at 3 AM after a night of drinking!!!

Seems like everyday in my neighborhood is July 4 starting Memorial Day all the way to Labor Day.

We had a great professional fireworks display April 13 at our local waterfront festival. If anyone saw the movie "Avalon", it was just like that.

There are laws about fireworks?

Some of my neighbors put on shows that rival the commercial ones. Including sky rockets with 5-pound charges. They're supposed to climb to nearly 1000 feet before exploding, but now and then, they don't. It's pretty exciting when a 5-lb charge goes off on the ground...

I kind of like it.

My dog doesn't.

I'd have to agree with you... fireworks and celebration on Memorial Day are totally in poor taste. #It's Memorial Day... know what a memorial is?

It's a day for remembrance of the veterans killed in combat in service to our country. #It is a somber day for honoring those who laid down their lives for the United States of America.

Just as many have forgotten the meaning of Christmas, many have forgotten the meaning of Memorial Day. #Jesus himself may have to re-establish the gravitas of Christmas... there appear to be too many too far gone to listen to anyone else on that subject. #But there are many veterans, veterans' families, and survivors of the combat-killed who can serve as reminders of the significance of this one, special day of honor.

Being "almost deaf" (use hearing aids) noise isn't much of a problem for me. But after someones been dodging bullets, I can very much understand why a vet would NOT like them.

Don't know what the laws are in other state away from here but here they aren't allowed - & have to have a special license for the "big" stuff like July 4th displays. - Even with that we have our "days" that we put up with it. Just to much for the Cops to handle. But if things get out of hand, people do get busted. Especially if it is dry & a fire could start.

Same case here in LA County. I think about the only thing legal are the "snakes" and such.

Used to get some of those big banger down in mexico. Some huge assed "bottle rockets" as well. It was more like a small missle. In fact when we were down in Mexico, down in baja where there's noone around, we used to shoot those into the water. It'd blow up a bug geyser like a WWII sub movie.

It is still legal for me to shoot a gun in my yard, but it is impractical as numerous humans have moved into the area and they are dangerous when frightened or provoked.

Here's a noisemaker. #I've had one for about 40 years.

Big Bang Carbide Cannons and "Bangsrite" calcium carbide (http://www.bigbangcannons.com/home.aspx)

Then again, an acetyline torch to fill balloons and a long stick with a candle on the end works pretty well too!

My Grandpa, a WW1 vet was a real yankee-doodle-dandy, born on the 4th of July. He loved shooting off fireworks...probably more than he would have otherwise since after each "pop" and BANG, Grandma would have to peel herself off the ceiling!

Here in 'Bubba' country the setting off of fireworks is actually illegal but the selling of them is not. I suppose that the counties like that extra tax base.

However the law is virtually ignored by everybody including the sheriffs department. Of course the boys have to make sure that everything works OK so they start a few days early until on the designated night their efforts are closely coordinated.

Every 4th of July my neighborhood looks like Bahgdad under siege, starting with the firecrackers and the Wal-Mart Jiffy Paks for the kiddies earlier in the evening and working upward until the heavy stuff starts going off around 10 PM. The bad news is by that time the revelers have already consumed several adult beverages. I have seen skyrockets ignited only a few feet away from a couple of toddlers and a couple of them launched horizontally across the court which caused one of my elderly neighbors to launch herself over the hood of an F-150 pick up to avoid being speared by the errant missile.

I have learned to remain indoors or at least in my back yard where the only danger comes from bottle rockets dropping onto my roof top.

Conditions are dry this year - Red Flags alerts are being issued almost every day by the NWS, yet despite probable tinder dry conditions, the show will probably continue.

I'll have the garden hoses laid out and charged.
