After being sent a Notice of Apparent Liability for $125,000, Pilot Travel Centers has settled their Notice for $90,000 http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . #Yup, they paid up!!! #And they seem to have taken the "export" radios out of their display cases.
Some of the 11 Meter crowd moaned when the thing was issued, some said they would never have to pay it, some
mocked FCC and the Amateur community as they blamed US for the presence of 'bandits' in 10 Meters (Y'all got all dem 'air channels thar an' won't gi' us n'arn! #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif )
So it was a good result. #Now if they will just go after some of the big dealers that have never been touched yet.

" only " $90,000 ?

That is maybe made up in a few hours nationwide in gasoline sales alone.

$90,000 down from $125,000? Why the deal?
You've got them dead to rights and would win any action brought by Pilot. I just don't get it.

The government probably figured getting that other 35 grand would cost more than 35 grand so decided to call it even.

Well, it DID accomplish one thing so far. It got the dadblasted "export" radios off their shelves! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif It used to be that they had a whole case full of the *%#@%(^# things, and when the NOF hit, they went away.

Whatever it takes not to hear, "Tan fer thar, Driv-ah, an know you rah't thar" on our bands"! #They don't belong there, they didn't EARN the privilege, and WE ought to be out there as much as we can to see that it doesn't creep back into our lives again.

The truckers *seem* to have gotten the word, too, since I can now travel the local interstate and not hear CB-type crap on 28 MHZ. Oh sure, when the bands open, you'll hear an occasional bandit, but not NEARLY so bad as it used to be! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Somebody with access ought to check the copper electronics forum. I'll bet they're coming unglued.

Either that, or being told to 'order now' before they go away for good.

I bet those radios removed from the shelves were not warehoused. They probably had a 24 hour fire sale on them.

Course, the bigger perveyor of that stuff is still Ebay. Plenty of 10 meter 'ham radios' with a 40 channel knob on them almost every day.
