Forget global warming! #It seems we have another radical theory on our hands -- "global dimming." #This theory seems to indicate the Earth is cooling, rather than warming, due to particles in the upper atmosphere that reflect some of the sun's light back into space before reaching the lower atmosphere and ground.

An excerpt from Wikipedia...

"Global dimming is a term describing the gradual reduction in the amount of global hemispherical irradiance (or total solar irradiance) at the Earth's surface since the 1950s. The effect varies by location but worldwide it is of the order of a 5% reduction over the three decades 1960-1990; the trend has reversed during the past decade. Global dimming creates a cooling effect that may have led scientists to underestimate the effect of greenhouse gases on global warming."

Here in Kalifornia we have special cases of Global Dimming. In reality here it is known as Global Dumbing, that is spelled incorrectly.

Normally one might think that "Global" would pertain to those events happening around the total planet Earth.

Not in Kalifornia ,that would be asking far more than the curriculum could handle. As It is many students who graduate High School have a difficult time locating Canada or Mexico on a map or Globe.So the Global concept is saved for those Sophomore and Junior years of college. # # # # # # # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

The Global Dimming is not a new idea at all, and in fact is pretty much proven to be nullifying the effects of Global Warming, and has been for decades. If not for the Dimming, Warming would be occurring at a much more rapid rate. There were several science articles on this many major publications over the past few months.

It was noted almost immediately after the Mt. Saint Helens eruption that Dimming was cooling the earth rapidly. It was more recently noted on 9/11 and the days that followed, the fallout pollution that occurred from those tragic events also created an increase in Dimming, and it happens immediately.

The problem is that due to improvements in processes and reduction in polluting emissions over the past several years, Global Dimming is slowing down -- not enough airborne particulate. We were on the right track, with Dimming just about cancelling the Warming, and now we've gone ahead and screwed up by reducing pollution to the point where there isn't much Dimming...

What we need now are fewer Dimbulbs in Washington...

Dim Wits??

The PBS program Nova discussed Global Dimming this past week. They blame it on jet contrails, largely. Huh? Shades of poison gas the government is releasing to kill us all, so we won't be here to work and pay taxes and can't pay the government and it will shut down and there won't be no darned welfare for them, as we are all dead so we can't pay for welfare for government employees so it will be up to the illegal aliens to contribute part of their money to help the goverment, but they won't be able to work because there won't be anyone left alive to work for, so they won't make any money anyway and will all have to go back to Mexico and abandon California. Yes?

I really think we are suffering from Global Stupidity. We could "revive" America by going back to say 1785, when everyone lived in a village and worked in the same village and walked to work, and never in their whole lives got more than six miles out of town and that was chasing a runaway horse. They rode bicycles, didn't need telephones as they could yell at each other across the street. No internet, either, by George. Or Tom. Whoops. I meant "Al." (as in Gore.)

Contrails? Aw, gee, guys, come on. But that is what they blamed it on. Oh, and burning oil, coal, gas, wood, cow manure, dead cats, badly-beaten CW horses, and other things. But not one word about nuclear energy. Just, "Turn off everything and we'll be fine. And we do mean everything."

We DO have Global Dimming, brought about not by jet contrails but by the dumb educating the dumber in our school systems.

I have a plan to counteract the global warming thing. All ya gots to do it put a really big disk of Mylar ® between the sun and the earth.

Would be a good mission for Nasa, a real goot use of our taxpayers monies.
