This is a moment that many of the youth hams, among others, have been waiting for. The idea has come up several times, and today we see it. A special thank you goes out to Fred, AA7BQ, for placing the forum here today. Also thank you to those who have supported the idea. First off let me introduce myself, I am a 17 year old active amateur radio operator. I started in the hobby nearly five years ago with my Technician class ticket. Over the last five years I worked my way up to the top class license. My interests in radio include (but are not limited to) Digital Modes, DX, Contesting, Rag-chewing, SWLing, and CW. I plan on, and I hope others will join, to be posting various different topics of interest to youth radio operators and future radio operators. I have been talking to various youth hams, and we hope that this forum will become a place to spotlight various youth activities, and youth operators who have made a difference in the world of radio. We also hope to target youth hams who are not so active, in sharing ideas and projects that could help them become more active. This will be a great place for students to stop by and learn about amateur radio from a youth perspective. I am very glad that we have the chance to put this forum in place.

I first got licensed in 2001 at the age of 9. I was heavily into CB for a few years, prior to that. A couple years ago, I got my dad and brother to get their licenses. I got my General a couple years ago, also.

Only sixty-one years old here; still young!!!

Seriously, you young blokes are the future of radio and, in many cases, of the electronics industry itself.

May your sense of fun and discovery never diminish.

Best of luck to you Steve and the newest addition to QRZ forums.

My 15 year old son tested today and passed his Tech license, so he will have a great spot to check in to see what other young people are doing.

Terry,
Thank you for moderating the posts in a certain topic, over in the Moderator's section. Were those personal attacks directed towards me? I sure hope nothing like that happens around here, and if so, Steve catches it quickly. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I am working on a contesting article that should be posted later today. I plan on posting up weekly articles, and hopefully we will see a massive increase over the next 6 months. There is a lot going on the world of youth radio operations that people sadly don't take much notice to. This forum is a chance for that notice to be taken.

I am glad that I see some of the hams that have been around longer lurking on this forum. As I said above, there are a lot of youth activities that sadly go un-noticed. Here is the chance for the young hams to come and tell their story and show off what they have done.

We are off to a good start, and thank you everyone for checking the forum out.

Speaking of contesting... need to continue working on my presentation for Dayton!

What other young hams here are going to Dayton?

I'm not. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif I'm not just made of money, like some people around here are. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif :P

I'd sure love to go, but I can live without it. Maybe when I'm older...

Plus, I've already got enough excitement, coming up. I'm getting 5 dirt bikes! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif For $200! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Congrats on the forum! #I'm 29, so not quite a youth anymore, but it'll be fun to check in now and then and see what you're up to.

Have fun and 73!

WOW! Yagotit!

Congratulations. I came into amateur radio at age 14. Unfortunately, that was 42 years ago. But there's a kid still locked in this aging body that sneaks out more often than I care to admit.

Hope ya'll have a lot of fun. Don't be scarce in the other forums. I'm being overwhelmed by grouchy old men!

A lot of truth to that, Danny! But there's nothing wrong with it- you've always got a smile on your face and you're having fun!

As for me, I'm 14 now, was licensed last summer, when I was 13. Took the test at the 2005 Boy Scout National Jamboree... that was a blast! Their K2BSA setup was sweet. I only operated there a little bit, unfortunately, but it (along with the whole Jambo) was a blast. Any chance anyone else was there? I'm hoping to go in 2010 as part of the K2BSA staff- as soon as I find out where to apply, I'm signing up.

Well, I'm glad to see a youth forum, for the young and the young at heart (I've noticed there are many of those around)!

Well this is wonderful. Glad to see we finally have it, a thanks to Fred indeed! Perhaps over time more of us younger ones will be deemed moderators over the youth forum.

For those of you that don't read sigs, I'm a 17 year old extra.
