I doubt if this is coincidental. I don't think most people will be thinking about going to a bookstore on 06/06/06. Marketing move? Maybe she's just showing her colors.

I read the link here, from your post.

I am simply amazed that someone would go to such links and devote so much time to trying to convince a Christian that their religion is a myth with an entire website devoted to that end. I know this is way off the topic of this thread, but I am utterly apalled that a person can be so pompous and arrogant about their non-belief as to equate the religion that has so shaped our civilization with Santa Claus. To call Christians dillusional, OMG, so condescending!! When I read this URL, I noted that the author is talking to his readers as if they were a child. As if he is so smart and right and his opinions are so infaliable, with no room for criticism, and that the entire WORLD looks at religious people like so many nutcases. THAT is usually not how I go about convincing anybody of my opinions, haha!

The author also make FALSE ASSUMPTIONS that all religious people view the texts of other religions at make believe. This person has no clue about religion. While I don't believe that Mohammad was sent by God, as I do Jesus, I believe he was a holy man, and certainly inspired by God. I think there is wisdom in the Koran, despite many flaws. I do not beleive the Koran to be the word of God, but I do believe it is inspired by God's love for humanity, just as any and all religious texts are.

Trust me, as a Christian, i am far more disturbed by the lack of religion in someone's heart than I am by the following of a religion that differs from my own. This may not be universally true of all religious people, but it is certainly true of me.

Again, to think that someone is so condescending and assured of his own answers to the mysteries of our existance that he would equate Christ, Mohammad, or even John Smith to Santa Claus is quite an insult.

UUGH, I can't put my dissapointment in such a thing into words!

I can't stand it, I must add something else....

It is also condescending and arrogant to think that people who believe in things outside of the physical realm are dillusional. No, I am not talking about the supernatural, mediums, ghosts, UFOs and Bigfoot. I am talking about the spiritual. In fact, I am talking about many things that can't be seen, but are nonetheless known to be there. Amateur radio operators put a lot of faith and belief in something that is intangeable, it is called RF. No, the senses you were born with can't detect RF, save perhaps a very, very strong electromagnetic field, but nevertheless we know it is there, and we know how to manipulate it and use it.

Now, that is a scientific example that can be explained with physics and science. What about the intangeables of emotion? We all know what love is...but can anyone really define it? Can you touch LOVE, can you taste it? Can the nerve endings of your fingers feel it? Can love be heard or smelled? Can love be brought out in a physical form to be seen?

No, of course not, because love is as much a spiritual thing as flesh is physical. We know what it is, and we all sometimes feel it and recognize it. But nobody can define it with a mathematical formula, nobody can draw a picture of it, and nobody can mimic what it sounds like.

This is what being religous is all about. Recognizing the limitations of mankind in our physical shell that we call our body. No, I don't believe in magical reindeer prancing around pulling a sleigh of goodies on Christmas. Of course not, but I do believe in my SOUL, because I can FEEL and SENSE it, not with my eyes, not with my nose, but with something much more relevant, MY HEART.

What a terrible world this will be if and when the unspiritual masses of our world finally convince the rest of us that we are dillusional, despite our collective faith. I fear the world will turn into something like in a science fiction movie or novel.

Likewise, those of us who used to be ensnared by religion (and those who never were to begin with) are amazed that Christians (and other religious groups) spend even more time attempting to entice unsuspecting people into what amounts to nothing more than pure mythology.

And that is where you show the hypocracy. I seldom if EVER start a thread mocking atheism. Most of the Christians on this website seldom IF EVER start threads mocking atheism. However, it is not at all uncommon to see a threat TOTALLY UNRELATED to religion (Ann Coulter??) turned into an anti-Christian rant with cute little URLs and such, just as this one was.

If anyone can dispute that anti-Christian posts outnumber Christian posts, I'll be a Monkey's Uncle.

And that fact is also intensified by the fact that most people, even here on QRZ, claim to be Christian, so logic would seem that if indeed, there was this conspiracy by Christians to brainwash atheists, it would seem there would be more activity to that end here on QRZ.

Nope, most Christians want to be left alone to believe what they will without constant "I'm smarter than you because I'm more scientific" posts.

THE END.

So, because you "seldom if EVER start a thread mocking atheism" that is supposed to have some sort of governing effect upon me? Is that it?

Sorry, FRF, but if "hypocrisy" is somehow strangely defined by the number of religionists (like you) who oppose my freedom of expression on the subject of religion, then, I'll wear the title as a badge of honor.

You can express your freedoms all you want. Make fun of others and what they beleive all you want. If the only way to build up your world view is to put down the views of others, then that is your right.

However;

If you expect those that you make fun of to keep quiet while you insult them, you have another thing coming.

To then cry foul when you are called on the carpet for your remarks is the hypocrisy.

I have made a couple posts making fun of athiests to make that very point. You think it is fine till you are the target. Then you decide that it is not fun anymore.

I was hoping that the point would be taken to heart, but alas, it fell on deaf ears.

Uh, no, not at all. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth where I am concerned.

Please feel free to post anything whatsoever that pokes fun at (or, preferably, pokes holes into) the non-theistic viewpoint. I welcome such threads/post with open arms.

I have no gripe with an argument against a thiestic view. Such as yourself, I rather enjoy a civil debate.

What bugs me and many others is when a civil debate degrades into name calling and personal attacks.

Poster #1- I dont think there is a God because.....

Poster #2- I think there is a God because.....

Poster #1- Well what about this evidence......

Poster #2- Here is what I beleive about that evidence....

Poster #1- Well you are a backwards idiot for that view, what a moron! etc...

That is the typical flow of such arguments in this forum.

Interesting site, ccw. Thanks for posting it. The author draws the Santa Claus parallel in that he believes both are fairy tails.

I always thought the parallel was more in that they're both used as a wedge to "be good" in return for the promise of good things in the future. Christmas presents and "everlasting life." Only thing is, in this case, Santa Claus is more provably "real."

Loved they guy's Challenge, too.

Speaking of emasculation, I always wondered about those conservatives who find manly looking chicks like this attractive. Many Conservatives seemingly can't tell a man from a woman. How would they know what emasculated means? I mean there's a fundamental problem to begin with. OTOH, I've seen the same (can't tell a man from a woman conservatives) have major dude problems with Clinton (the female one). I suppose they felt threatened and that's why they had to impeach the Clinton babe magnet.

Thanks for the permission. I certainly feel justified now.

I particularly like the way she stole from O'Reilly. Real touch of class - plagerizing from the 'tard of Faux news.

I believe that my post was directed to AC bashers and not to any specific political party or viewpoint. #

But since you opened that can of worms. . . .

Given a choice of seeing a woman of Coulters caliber as compared to say Hillary Clinton or Cindy Sheehan, I'll take Coulter every time, prefering brains, wit and skillful repartee over shrill rhetoric or the left's version of dumb and dumber. #

On the other hand, should I ever be so fortunate to have to select between AC and some left wing nubile vacuous starlet, well Hey I'm on the plane to the west coast in a heartbeat.

But I will say this, based upon years of observation:

It is usually the women that first become liberals, I suppose because when the nurturing trait kicks in they want to save every tree, furry animal and cute little baby in the world. #Nothing wrong with that except that they are boring to go out with. #You can't take them anywhere without hearing their obsessive rant against everything progressive. #Take one to a football game for instance and forget about enjoying yourself since they will go on and on about the violence of the game, the preservatives in the food, why don't they serve wine instead of just beer, etc. #I'd much rather take some babe to a game that is looking forward to an awesome display of testoserone, swills down a few beers herself as well as eating a couple of hotdogs, and gets all warm and excited by the end of the fourth quarter and looking forward to continuing the party.

Now enter the pathetic male who couldn't get a date with a hot babe if he tried but it may be possible for him to score with the ugly chick wearing the Birkenstock sandals and sprouting hair on her legs and armpits. #All he has to do is revise his political outlook and as the sailors like to say "any port in a storm". #Surprisingly, it works for him and the poor sap, hungry for affection from any source of estrogene is hooked into a lifestyle of false beliefs, herbal tea and tofu for the rest of his life. #The really unfortunate aspect of this coupling is that they can breed. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Goths, Ravers, Nerds (summa-cum-summa Harvard), Beauty contest contestants, Mensa members and a couple that were pretty low on the IQ meter, none met the description you've got up there. Most were a real pleasure to be with and we're still friends (except for wife #1 - there's an exception to every rule).

AC looks to me like she'd be right at home in a nice pair. Won't one of you do the, ahem, 'right' thing and send her some?

All of our area's liberalist-hugger-bunny types do indeed resemble the lady(?) pictured on the last page of this thread. Methinks it comes from said diet of tofu, sprouts, nuts and other non-animal-derived forms of nutrition.

Ann...should be Ann-O-Rectic. While yer boxing up the Birkenstocks, include half a side of beef, would ya?

That person isn't even remotely cute. And I seriously doubt she would 'kick back for a few beers' with anyone.

I always thought the parallel was more in that they're both used as a wedge to "be good" in return for the promise of good things in the future. #Christmas presents and "everlasting life." #Only thing is, in this case, Santa Claus is more provably "real."

Loved they guy's Challenge, too.

Hey, no problem - glad you enjoyed it! The site owner's name is Marshall Brain (and yes, that is his real name). Marshall is also the founder of howstuffworks.com (http://www.howstuffworks.com) (which you may have heard of).

Anyway, if you enjoyed that one, here are a few of my other favorites:

Oops! #I guess I better stop doing that, then. #I think my own reference was that God was "Santa Claus for adults" though. #A small distinction, admittedly.
