The Koenigsegg CCX will hit U.S. streets this year. The world's fastest production car with 806 horses under the hood, it's the first Koenigsegg engineered to pass strict U.S. auto regulations. And for $722,534 (fully equipped and before taxes), you also get driving lessons from a former test car driver. Quick, take a look at the world's fastest car.

That's cheap. The President of Constellation Energy could get TWO of them -- one for himself and one for his hottie Trophy Wife. Might even be able to buy a third as a spare after sticking us up the rump with a 72% rate increase this Summer!

I'd prefer a McLaren or a Corvette. The rest could go into the house, antenna farm and 4 - 12K Yaesu's. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Nice Specs though:

Quote[/b] ]Performance

Acceleration: 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) 3.2 seconds
Top speed: 395+ km/h (245+ mph)
Standing Quartermile: 9.9 seconds, end speed 235 km/h (146 mph)
Braking distance: 31m (100-0 km/h)
Lateral G-force: 1.3 G
Fuel Consumption: Highway travel: 13 l / 100 km
Combined: 17 l / 100 km

That's about 23 MPG combined (city/hway). Not bad at all.

Yep, did see it a few times. I also read Brock Yates (the founder of the Cannonball Coast to Coast Run) collumns in Car and Driver as he wrote about the race and the various competitors. My favorite was the Polish National team who took a Chevy Vega panel truck, ripped out the back seat stuck a Corvette high performance engine amid-ships and crammed extra gas tanks in the available space. Most years they would've finished first, but that year the record was set at 33hrs by a three man Ferrari team. (dunno how you get 3 guys into a 2 seat car) They usually took off from the Red Ball garage on the east side of Mid-town Manhattan, and the smart drivers got out of Dodge quick taking the Lincoln Tunnel, because the cops would be waiting for them...

Now it's one lap of America.. more of a rally than a mad dash across the continent. Funny, they never had a fatality and very few accidents.

Still, 20 lamburgers to go is a good one. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

One day I'm planning to go on the Alaskan Highway. See Dawson's Creek, and points north. I think I'd like to try it in a Jeep and get back before the snow starts to fly. Ought to make for some good DXing while mobiling. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Yeah, That IS a hot car!
But at close to 3/4 million bucks, EVEN if I won the BIG lottery, I would still buy a Z06 Corvette (R version) (Buy American!) And have a REAL FUN car, And spend maybe 200K to build a real dream hamshack complete with towers, AND still have lots of change left over. (Just TRY to buy insurance on a car like that!!!) http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Way back during the cold war, there was a running arguement between the Americans and Russians as to who made the fastest car. So they decided to hold a race. The American car won. The report in Pravda was that a great race was held. The Russian car came in second, but the American car came in next to last. See, stastics can be misleading, like Twain said.

I've always liked that car too. I remember it in the James Bond films. It's a handful to drive from the reports I've seen. Once saw a small blonde driving one on the FDR Drive one afternoon. I was in a hopped up Vega and we flew down neck and neck through the turns and traffic. It was a lot of fun and I really admired her skill with a big car like this. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I saw a show on one of the Discovery channels on it. Looks like quite a challenge to drive. Now there's reports that the roads in Alaska and the Canadian north are being damaged because the permafrost is melting. Hope that the highway doesn't get to the point where it's closed. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Looks nice... #Perfect for driving out in the western states with a high speed limit, or none at all. #If I had something like that, #I would drive it for show. #Take it once a week (on the weekend) to the local drag strip to "blow the carbs" out of the engine.

I would rather have this as a more realistic option. #The 2007 Audi S6:

Or this 2009 Dodge Challenger:

Ah yes! The GT-40... American made muscle! Another beyond the reach pricetag. $250,000 and up...

That 2009 Challenger has me excited with a 6.1 liter V-8 Hemi with 425 HP and 325 Ft Lb of torque. Chrysler has not said whether or not they will build it.

Chevy is reviving the Camaro with a modern look and retro 60's styling. If Chevy is building the Camaro, you know Dodge will have to counter with the Challenger.

The Audi S6 is the sport version of the A6. Based on what I reviewed off their website about the A6. Talk about nice comforts. Yes, it's German engineered, but I haven't heard too many US owners of German cars complain too much. The S6 with a V10 is going to be amazingly fast.

Actually the Ford GT 40 is about $170K. Not bad for a car that can be configured to go 240MPH. That also means you can get 5 for the price of that exoticar that this thread is about. Or any combination of Yaesu/Icom 12K radios and a couple of houses to put the radios and cars in. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Actually, the Bugatti Veyron is touted as the fastest production car.

Zero to 60 mph: 2.5 s

Zero to 100 mph: 6.0 s

Zero to 150 mph: 11.0 s

Zero to 200 mph: 22.0 s

Readaboutit.
Link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron_16.4)

Link #2 (http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,12529-1890873,00.html)

From drivingtimes:

You might point out at this juncture that the McLaren F1 could top 240mph, but at that speed it was pretty much out of control. And anyway it really isn’t in the same league as the Bugatti. In a drag race you could let the McLaren get to 120mph before setting off in the Veyron. And you’d still get to 200mph first. The Bugatti is way, way faster than anything else the roads have seen.

I suggest you Americans stick to the GT-40 and similar.

If you got behind the wheel of a proper car, (which can turn bends at >40MPH), you wouldn't like the ride 'quality'.

I don't care how many horses you have in the cage, you are just going to be spinning tires at my home QTH. If you get wound up in third gear, I will probably have to pull you out of the ditch. Count me as unimpressed. Hello?

Bowler land rover. (http://ww.bowler-offroad.com/NAV1.htm)

N.B. American pals - this is intended to be light hearted fun. Not least of all because sooner or later one of you yanks is going to point out that all the British car makers are either defunct or owned by Ford or GM or something...

Regardless, American suspension is built for large posteriors and no corners.

Carry on,
