He did not invent radio, but set up one of the best promotional schemes ever to promote radio.

my dog is named after Mr. Marconi
he did invent wireless telegraphy
he is the person that put it all together
and made it pay
all scientists and inventers stand on the sholders
of those that come before them

Which says, sometimes opportunistic and charismatic take all, even when its NOT theirs.
The most brainy radio pioneer was Armstrong. A genius with an EE degree, as scientific as such a degree could be 70 years ago.
FM radio and down conversion, using products of mixers.
Of course both FM and mixers still in use today.
It is said he used to climb a 400 foot radio tower and hand by his knees.
The irony, Sharnoff of RCA stole Armstrongs inventions and with SLICK lawyers made trivial changes so Armstrongs ideas and inventions were licensed to GIANT and CROOK, RCA. Yes, folks, corporations have never really been much different.
Its not clear what motivated Armstrong's suicide, some said finances, but he jumped to his death from a 20 story apartment.
He was upon hitting ground, dead on arival.

Hello
you need to reread radio history
Sarnoff and Armstrong started as friends
Sarnoff/RCA did not steal Armstrong's
regeneration De Forest did
RCA did not steal Armstrong's superhet
RCA payed Armstrong in money and stock
at one time Armstrong was the largest single
stock holder in RCA,
holding more RCA stock than Sarnoff did
the split between Armstrong and Sarnoff
did not happen till fm/tv
yes RCA tryed to screw Armstrong
out of patent royaltys on his FM work
and did crush his Yankee Network
this all took place because both Armstrong and Sarnoff
would not or could not
in any way shape of form compomise
this hurt both men and in the end wrecked RCA*
worst of enemies often start out as friends
this happened to Armstrong and Sarnoff

Never said RCA stole super-het, but the fued was what some historians believe prompted Armstrongs suicide.
I believe Armstrong also saw where an FM signal could be multiplexed also to carry so called "hidden" information not contained in the main baseband mod. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Just for a bit more history 17 of the original patents that Marconi used were the exact same as Tesla's designs, Tesla's patent was actually registered in America first while Marconi held an English patent. Tesla didn't mind and made the statement that "Marconi is a good fellow, let him continue. He is using 17 of my patents" until Marconi was given presidential commendation, contracts, and Marconi started claiming to have never read any of Tesla's work. Tesla later referred to Marconi as "a donkey." It was not long after that Tesla sued for recognition and sadly was not recognized until nine months after his death.

You guys are all wrong. #Popoff invented radio. #Tesla copied his experiments. # Both started by listening to lightning bolt noise because no hams were on the air yet.
QRM was always there...even before hams tried to override it. #Popoff was the first to hear it. #He built his first radio receiver to predict the coming of rain storms. # It was better than rainbows and faster than thunder.
w2ilp (Initially Loud Popoff) also confirmed that radio traveled at the speed of summer lightning.
