Amateur Radio Alphabet Video

Good morning,

I just completed my project for my mulimedia class, it is an amateur radio alphabet video. I have the video uploaded to the web at a very low quality if anyone is interested in seeing it. Just click here! (http://youtube.com/watch?v=CAYbYWTq8-E)

This movie was made in iMovie, so there wasn't very much I could do with it. I added an effect to it to make it look like there was static, and I think I had a good choice for the song. As for the pictures, they were all from the internet, as it is legal in the school project; however, as for uploading it, unless I get any letters from angry people or their lawyers, I won't worry myself. The low quality makes some parts very hard to see, but please tell me what you think.

What I can't wait is to show my full quality to the younger kids (hence the "alphabet" video.. however, they won't understand much of it (I don't suppose) it will be neat anyhow.

Edit: This version is not the corrected version, so there are a few mishaps like "X is For XTAL" and then it says "Starring Me".. I fixed in my final version. Also, not all pictures are really directly related to amater radio.

I am officially scaring myself. I had to rewind the movie a bit so I could copy the morse code simply out of morbid curiosity...

I liked your video. The content and the song was perfect. I have a question, is that Glenn's Shack? The alphabet was very creative and if anybody asks about Zanzibar, tell them to look on the IOTA map.
Well nobody said that SWL is static free. I think you should show your video at your next ham fest. Since you are not advertising or asking for donations, I wouldn't worry about the radios that were displayed. Not only are you being creative with your knowledge of Amateur Radio but also educating and promoting Amateur Radio to the younger generation.

Thank you guys for the response, that is not Glen's shack. As for Zanzibar, you all must know that I have to be very different from everyone else, and therefore I threw that in. As for showing this to a hamfest, I would make many improvements (even to my final, full quality video) and I would do it in Final Cut Pro with many more effects (iMovie is lacking in that department, but great for simple movies as I did for the project).

My reasoning for uploading was simply because I could. The computer teacher said we would show these videos to "younger" kids, I am not sure what grade level that means, if we took a look at all the videos everyone has been making, I think they would have to be atleast 4th grade to understand them in any shape or form. Who knows how many 4th graders might watch the video and go home and ask mommy and daddy about "amatuer radio". Mommy and daddy may not know, but a simple google search. This is not a quest to gain new hams, but rather inform the public. If it gains any new hams, great; however, I highly doubt it, and I wouldn't push anyone who wasn't serious to get involved.

Technically good, could be cut down to about 2/3 or 1/2 the time and speed it up for impact. Reminds me of film school nearly 40 years ago, and the irrelevence of youthful endeavors in most cases. That's not a bad thing at all. It's time to build foundations or tear them down.

P.S. It was indeed a cool video. Z= Zip Ties (Tie Wraps). Perhaps a prisoner with hands bound by zippy ties?

Yes, he is the movie guy. Well given the time and the effort (and Final Cut Pro) I could do a much better video. Of course, it would be bigger than 100MB and I wouldn't be able to upload it to the web and share with everyone.

I actually enjoyed your video Steve, I was just joshing about BBC.

If you want to see a really crummy video, here is one my son did in about 3 hours the other night. I think there is a storyline, but it is full of insider jokes that I don't get. He was just messing around to pick on his friends in the band.

The music folowed the story. It looks like your son has been close to his friends for a number of years. I like the fact the girls are not fighting over each other to gain the hero, instead they both wanted the villan. Very creative, The music could have been mixed in alittle tighter, but I could see how he was messing around with some jealousy and lonelines. As one who makes part of his living producing documentary and educational video -- that is a good start for a career in this business. It shows talent and imagination.

Is there any way I can get a high res version that I can show at this years "Ham Radio Town Meeting" at the Dayton Hamvention? We plan to launch the new "Ham Radio Video Corps" and your video would be a good example of what one can do with minimal equipment and a lot of imagination.
