How many people remember what happened 2050 years ago today?

Julius Caesar played pool with Brutus and Cassius.

Julius forgot it was the Ides of March.

A former incarnation of 'SY was born and started on his path to enlighrtenment. Said path has logically led to his present holy office.

If I could "remember" that far back I really would be an OT.

(sorry, just couldn't resist.....)

A new Greek coin was minted, circa 44 BC!

I've got that one in my collection... It's a beautiful Greek Lincoln head with the Parthenon on the obverse. #It's clearly stamped 44 BC in Roman numerals. #I know it's real 'cause the certificate of authenticity was signed by Pythagorean Theorem himself with an indelible Sharpie a year after the coin was minted -- 45 BC.

That would be before it was minted.

I dunno what happened 2050 years ago ...but if we believe the New Testament...I guess three men were beginning to collect mer and frankincense and starting to learn how to be wise enough to follow a star..

Glen, since you're a moderator, why the heck didn't you put this question in poll form? Would've been much easier to guess the answer that way. However, If it has anything to do with religion, I'm not interested. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

K9STH

It is not really suitable for a poll.

Frankly, I wanted to see how many people out there remembered their high school history classes (and many English classes as well).

On March 15 in the year 44 B.C. (the "ides of March") Juluis Caesar was murdered by members of the Roman Senate (and others).

The phrase "beware the ides of March" is from the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Now every month has its "ides", that being the middle of the month which is the 15th. The line "E' tu Brute' " (loosley translated means "you too" or "you also" Brutus - Brutus was possibly Julius Caesar's illigitimate son and definitely was one of his protoge's) is from the same play as is the speech by Mark Anthony which starts "Friends, Romans, and countrymen, lend me your ears".

It is kinda like the night time television shows where they go out on the street and ask questions of the people just to see what kind of answers that come forth. A few people got the correct answer and others, well . . .

And this all happened because Cassius convinced a gullible Brutus that they could not have an Emporer who couldn't swim. At least that was the what a Shakespearean actor told my 10th grade class when we were studying the play.

So, how do You remember your wife's birthday?

"day after the Ides of March".

K9STH
03-16-2006, 08:33 PM
Nope!

My wife's birthday is 28 October.

Now my wedding anniversary is on "insect repellant day", June 12th (6-12 is a brand of insect repellant).

My eldest daughter's birthday is 20 November.

My middle daughter's birthday is 3 August.

My youngest daughter's birthday is 11 July (she was born on 7-11-77 and I think that Southland Corporation should have done something for her - they owned the 7-11 stores at the time).

My eldest grand daughter's birthday is easy to remember since it is on Groundhog's Day (2 February).

My mother's birthday was on the day that the Japanese officially surrendered, 2 September. My father's birthday was 3 weeks later, 23 September. Their wedding anniversary was 16 September (2 weeks after my mother's birthday).

My brother's birthday is exactly 1 month before mine (his is 13 January) and my sister's birthday is 28 June.

I have always been able to remember numbers and dates quite well (I also like the edible type of dates as well).

Oh Wow! I just remembered a gal's name I had not thought of in decades! I am going to look her up on classmates.com

Her last name was "Sweetnam", and despite trying many times, I just could not remember it until your post.

I once knew a guy who just couldn't remember his wife's birthday, his wedding anniversary, etc. He finally bought several gifts, had them wrapped, and kept them hidden from his wife. When the day came around and his wife was angry he would get one of the gifts and say something about wanting to surprise her. It worked every time!

Obviously he is both a slow learner and his wife is not nearly as snoopy as mine is. That dude's wife is more forgiving of 'marital errors' then mine also. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
