In memory of my dear mother Elizabeth, KN1LNF.
She took the time to help me get into amateur radio and bought me, with her meager salary my first rig.

DX-40 and S-38E, Later HQ 100 and a Viking II
Also as a Christmas gift my first mich, it was a brown Heathkit model ??.

Mom passed away at sundown, August 29 2002, but she still is in my dreams.

Until we meet again Mom, Thanks! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I could sure echo your feelings. My Dad, WD6FKF and Mom, Not a HAM but played CB radio with me as a kid were wonderful parrents and I can only hope I'm half as good.

I'll share a funny story about my dad, I'm sure someone will relate. Dad had bought me a brand new Yaesu FT101B with hustler mobile antennas. He and I took the radio up to Mt. Solidad here in San Diego to do some portable operations. Well here I am all of 14 years old telling my father to please let me hook up the radio to 12Vdc, but he just wanted to help I guess he was an excited as I was. So I hear him say, "Go ahead turn it on"
Well as I turned on the "Heater and Power" switch out comes the smoke and poping noise, YEP he hooked it up backwards.... D A D!

I think he felt worse than I did, even though it was my new radio, he was the one who did it.. I love my dad and each and every day I miss talking to him and mom. Having seen my Dad profess Jesus as Lord and Savior and then follow Him in New Testiment Baptisim, I have no doubt I will see them again.

73's & 88's Pop I miss you.

Yes, I can recall so many times when my mother KN1LNF thought I was daft and going to kill myself too. She could never understand why Gary could NEVER be satisfied.

First a DX40 then I tried to say I want high level AM Mod, so she helps me with a MORE expensive Viking II. In one year at age 16, I want to get a BIG BERTHA, homebrew 600 watt pair of 813's. I mean that rig was HUGE and I had an upstairs bedroom in a very small post WW2 house, maybe 700 sq feet tops.

Later came my " belly aches" for a beam antenna and you know I need a tower too!

She never complianed, but when I put that tripod tower and TA 33 on roof.. well??? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
God bless and I hope there is a heavan, because that's where she is as is your Dad.

Another funny story I have about my parrents was when I worked for the Sheriff's Department still living at home doing the swing shift thing, I'd get on 75 meters and talk with my old friend Jim Richards, NE6U (Also SK) and my mom coming running into the shack telling me she could her someone in the back yard. Well I told Jim to stand by and when out to take a listen, NOTHING! So back to 75 and Jim, well again she comes in and tells me she can hear them talking and there in the backyard. This time I ask my Dad to talk with Jim so I can check this out. Well low and behold what was hapening was I using my 4-1000A amp which generating a corona discharge off the end and the antenna which was being modulated. What she was hearing was our voice's..

So much for the prowler..

Those were the days..
