I am a dead ham for the last 7 years... reasons being the very expensive rigs available here in India and the down and out display of both of my Yeasu FT 757s...
AND...
...
Internet!!!
I really dont know what effect it has had on Hamming... When I had to give it up, I was up all night and having a good time hamming... But am really desperate AND curious to see what it is like there...out there in the open airspace...
I have this feeling that I shall be there soon.... But reading the articles in the various fora here, I am optimistic...
Till then 73

If you can access the Internet, and if you have a sound card, you use one of the new ham radio applications to get back on the air. It's not the same as HF, but it is fun none the less.
ILink is a good program to start with. http://www.aacnet.net.
There are others that will let you talk to other hams via Morse Code over the Internet. I don't have a URL, but it was written up on the ARRL web page a few months ago.

Whoa there dude!...
You are a "dead ham"?
This is really weird.
Is this like that movie "Frequency"?
Like..er..we're talking to a guy thats been dead for seven years except this time it's on the net?
Hey, kind of a "Frequency" and "Matrix" thingy combined.
Ok..I can dig it..cool.. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Dear OM Craig, James, William,
Thanks a tonne for your condolences, suggestions and tributes!
I am so sorry that I have not seen this post.
I was just Googling my call-sign when this one came up.
I had been visiting QRZ.com pretty regularly, however, I missed this post as it did not show anywhere in the home-page as having received new replies, as is the norm in other BBS. Now, that I know, I shall keep a better track.
Craig, I still am a Dead Ham.
William, I shall soon buy an HF Rig. However, I still am going to check the link that you so kindly shared.
See you on air. Shall let all of you know, individually, once I set the rig up!
73s.
Ra.

8 years - that's not long to wait for a reply!
ILink has been replaced now with EchoLink. You can read about it at http://www.echolink.org

For those of us monetarily challenged, homebrew is the thing. Build yourself a small CW rig. Plenty of schematics around.
Zombie thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your a Dead Ham?
Hope you feel better.
Come to America. There are lots of opportunities here, even in our great Depression, for VU Hams. My boss who runs this company is from there, think the Mumbai area, and is currently over there as I type. Also, there are lots of cheap radios here. Like for $20US or less, where you find them.
Sure wish you could go to the Laccadives. That is the last country I need in that whole region. You would make ALOT of people happy if you operated from there. Very very needed!
I remember it was quite a thrill, during the good sunspot years, to work a VU while driving mobile. Those were the days. Haven't heard any VUs in a long long time.
73!
New record for zombie thread??

A. Not even close.
B. Doesn't count when the original poster resurrects his own thread.

Isn't a zombie thread by a dead ham redundant, whether resurrected or not?
Should this be combined with the Reincarnation thread?
Oh, I bet I could dig up one that is older ! But maybe not. I really don't know how or why some threads get deleted after so long, and others seem to come back from "the other side" !
How long ago was Fred's "Please Ignore" thread posted ?
