May people have great QSL cards and many interesting ones from their collections. Post them for everyone to see..FOR FREE!

A popular topic on QRZ.com has been to post QSL cards. Now, a new QSL card display forum has been setup on flickr.com. If your not familiar with flickr.com, its a photo sharing web site to show your pictures to friends, family or the world. ITS FREE. I have setup a QSL card group and would like to encourage everyone to sign up for flickr (again, free) and submit their cards to the group.

To see the group thus far, take a look at this link:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/96877476@N00/

To sign up for flickr, go here and follow the directions:
www.flickr.com
and select the sign up now button. Its simple and free.

Rules for posting on the group are simple:

1 - Display your QSL cards. Add as many as you want.

2 - Nothing obscene! No images or QSL cards that are lewd, obscene or show nudity. This is a groups for kids, laddies and gentleman.

3 - Take the no-code fight elsewhere. This is a QSL sharing group.

Thanks and hope to see some great cards on line!

Very nice.

So that was YOUR 1921 Vibroplex. I almost went for it but . . . didn't. May it find happiness in its new home.

Ha! Yes, I really liked that 1921 Vibroplex, but yes, it went to a good home.

While a nice idea and great images, signing up there is an open invitation to all kinds of spam from Yahoo which is notorious for it. #Notice the invite to all your friends. #Nothing is free.

So, buyer beware.

Nice site yes, I may also post some old qsl cards in time there. But.....if the spam starts rolling in I will not be a happy camper.

Iam already changing over to Gmail and thinking of changing user names in yahoo every 6 months until this spamming is limited to a lower number or it all will be Gmail. My call at yahoo has maybe one a week, the other yahoo acct which is older gets about 200/day, that one is soon to be history
I can see this turning into a 'spamming thread" so I will stop right now.

Great idea however for this new site, and the other post
from K2WH is correct, quote, "nothing is free", but I'll take the chance.

Very nice site. #Interesting to note the positive comments from non-hams. #Another way to attract new hams?

I have three questions before I commit to this;
1. How many photos can you post with the "free" membership?
2. What is the maximum file size?
3. What photo size?

Flickr allows users with free accounts to post unlimited photos, although only the most recent 200 photos will show up in your personal "photostream." However, even older photos will still appear in groups such as this QSL card group. I believe the max file size is on the order of 5 MB, so that should be plenty for most people.

Let me see if I can address some of these issues.

Yes, Spam is an issue in general on the INternet, but I have not had any problems thus far using flickr and I have been on it for a while now. You don't need to make your e-mail address public AT ALL with it, and I certainly don't. When I log in, it will show me if I have any internal messages sent to me. No one see my e-mail address unless I e-mail them directly after mutually agreeing to do so with the other party.

Also, when you sign up, you don't have to leave your active e-mail address. You can setup a "yahoo" address on the spot and use that to send all the junk, should there be any, thus freeing your active and coveted private account from spam....but like I said, it hasn't been an issue for me thus far. Proceed as you see fit.

As for uploads...Hobbyists probably will do fine with teh free side of the service. With my free signup, I got to send up 200 photos at 2.11 megapixels each (they are all still there if you want to see them) before I reached a limit. Yes, you can certainly buy an account, but I ran for several months before doing so. The only reason I did was because I needed an much more extensive upload capability for a few jobs and special projects I was working on.

If all you want to do is send up a few pictures and a bunch of QSL cards, the free limit of 200 is going to do the job without having to buy an account subscription.

This is just a way to show off some great and fun cards and enjoy the hobby. Simple and free...yes, I know nothing is really free, but I have found no adverse conditions to this service thus far and I consider myself very sensitive to invasions of privacy and misrepresentation of my information by others.

Hope to see more folks on the group.
