Look at this!!
It's a 10-meter radio "for the truck" that can "stomp" all over your fellow operators. Who's gonna be the first to bid?

Nice Rig but it's a One Band Radio for $440. For $110 more you can have a IC-718 Like I have. I'll take the Icom any day of the week. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Notice,
There is no bidding, it is Buy it NOW only.
This is not nauseating, just funny that fools buy this stuff and think they are getting something GREAT, instead of what they are really buying is a piece of JUNK !
Whackpack, it's WACKED alright !

Fred should start a site called BIG10-4.com for all you hams who seem to be obssessed with CBers. I'm sure one of you fine upstanding hams took the time to rat the seller out to eBay, too!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
BTW: any goober with a soldering iron or a pair of pliers can "WACKPACK" any rig simply by removing (identifying, grabbing and yanking out) the modulation limiter...or maybe it should read "this radio attacked by a whacker!".

This was listed in the "Transcievers" subsection of the "Ham Radios" (Note: There is a CB radio section, this was listed under Ham Radio) section of the "Consumer Electronics" category. I was looking for an HF rig as I'm determined to get my General this month.
I just hate people who represent something as something it isn't. If you look at the text it's the same as the CBer-oriented text on their web site with "ham radio" find-and-replaced for every time it said "CB". Plus I think it's a toss-up between hilarious and sickening that the main selling point of this radio is that it can "stomp on" other operators.
No, I didn't rat the seller out to eBay. Technically, he says that it's for 10-meter amateur use, and is therefore doing nothing wrong. But he's not selling to 10-meter amateurs, that's for sure.

A fool and his money . . .
From the ebay auction: "We're not like other radio shops, or the typical ham radio store that robs the customer, trying to squeeze every last dime out of them and alls you get is a lame so-called tech who has butchered more radios in the last hour then you'd care to know!" $440 for that thing and that's not robbery?!
I swear, I went into the wrong business. Between these things and 40m dipoles, I could be living on an island.

If you zoom in real close and look at the ebay photo, it has an on-off switch for the whack function. The operator doesn't always have to have the whack on.

A while back, someone (IIRC, the outfit selling this radio) was spamming a few of the radio boards with advertisements of the "WACKPACK" tune-up job. Needless to say, the whole bit didn't go over too well with many of the sponsors...some of whom happen to be in the sales/service business themselves.
If I'm not mistaken, isn't this rig on the FCC's "Banned" list?

I still use a CB, yes a ham radio operater that uses CB. I talk a lot on 38 LSB, and get out really well for 12 watts. Some guys I know are still on CB, still trying to get them to convert http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Heck, 4 watts seems to get out there pretty well with a good antenna.

Same here...have a nice collection of Royce AM/SSB base and mobile rigs for 11M duties. We also use CB for bike-to-bike communications when riding with the various motorcycle touring clubs that I'm a member of. Very few if any of the cycle crew are hams, and the CB sets work well for such things as ride coordination and traffic updates.
One of these days I'm going to install something along the lines of an IC706/7000 on one of my touring bikes - hopefully, by the peak of the next sunspot cycle.

I seem to recall this "whackpack" dude being highlighted on this very BB a few months ago. I believe at that time he was reported and then he changed his ads slightly to remove the CB connotation, which satisfied ebay, which is why hes still out there selling them.
The bottom line for Ebay usually is, unless something is blatently being peddled as illegal, they aren't going to take it down-the sale means collection of the 3% or so they got off the sale. To remove such ads would hurt thier bottom line.
A search for "police lights" used to yield tons of "salesmen" who would sell you just about anything to make your car look like a cop car. Some reports and intervention have limited the sale of red/blue lights to 'antique' only, but they do still sell yellow lights. Some of them will sell you the yellow ones, with a 'contact by email regarding other colors' where I'm guessing they will sell them to you outside of ebay. They still sell the strobe sets though, since those are white light I guess they can get away with it. I still go back and look on occasion and see someone slip a red or blue in and get away with it, but when I went and looked about a year ago (needed a yellow/yellow pair for a new security truck for the company I work for) they had full police lightbars on there being sold. Crazy stuff.
Remember, if you need IT, you can find it there. Sometimes you have to take the IT though and add 2 letters to the front of it (the first letter being an S, I'll let you guess the second) and that will more accurately describe some of the things people sell on there. But as they say, one man's garbage is another mans treasure, I've sold things at a yard sale before that I would have thought never sold, and the 'good stuff' is still in boxes in my garage as we speak.....

Funny. My Ranger AR-3500 10m has the following:
A roger beep. (I had to turn that off)
Frequency coverage from 26-30MHz tx (I i push a few buttons I can expand it futher to add 12m but there is lottle point since we are at a low up there.
A weird way to send CW. You have to push the transmit button on the mic the same time you are sending with a key. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

But ofcourse it is a waste of money (NO DOUBT)

Now that i have both the 706 MKIIG and New IC-7000
I think i will make a small project to set up a bike with the 706 MKIIG (Thanks for the IDEA )
Hey VE7NOT
I remember using my AR-3500 (been a long time...but i liked it more then the RCI-2970)
I agree that a Icom will trash those radios..
back in the early 80's i didnt have the knowlege i have today...neither did i have the desire to spend as much on the hobby as i do now..
So i guess many learn as they go..
just is a shame to see others buy what we know is less then a nice radio...i guess it is better then say a 148 gtl
but that is about it..

That Whack Pack deal is so bogus.. All it is is a couple of resistors stuck inside the radio to make it "swing" sweetly on the meter. Some guys on CB are obsessed with the swing deal. I guess it helps them overcome whatever shortcomings they have. I never could understand it and i was into CB for over 15 years. But then again there is a lot of stuff CB related that i never could understand. Oh well. Life goes on!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Other than we just listen to the Kenwood Tm-V708a dual band radio when we travel around town. There isnt much of anyone that talks around here in the Panama City Beach area. accept for me & n4xe the owner of couple of repeaters here locally then its dead silence when no one talks. Harold

All this talk 'bout the CB. #Everyone knows CB equipment is FAR superior to Amateur equipment! #For instance:
Ham radios only work well with modulation levels peak 100% - CB radios always work best at 185% modulation or greater.
Ham radios only have clean, warm air coming from the fans - CB radios CAN BLOW SMOKE!
Ham radios don't #do anything but start receiving after the transmit key is released - CB radios can play a 2 minute music solo after releasing the tx key.
Ham radios only sound like the operators do at each station. - CB radios can make the operator sound like Darth Vader in a culvert.
Ham radios only have notch filters and attenuation. - #CB radios have bi-directional pushin and pulling boots.
Ham radios only have indicator lamps that indicate conditions of the rig. - CB radios have LED chasers, strobe lights, neon tubes and rainbow coloured faceplates.
And my favorite!
Ham radio Antennas; the Amateur Hy-gain DB-1217 7 element beam only has a forward gain of 9.8 dbi (isotropic) - CB antennas such as the Moonraker S27-4 #4 element beam has a forward gain of 10.5 dbd !!!
So clearly all our Amateur equipment is way overrpriced and inferior to CB radio products.
So all ya 'all be gittin' the CB radya stuff. Yous be 'blowin' smoke, and all yer good buddies will be passin' ya flowers - who knows yous could be walkin' the dog and bein' back quiet before ya know it. So you be takin' care and I'm back out-ut-ut-ut-t-t-t-t-t-t!

Yes.
And that's exactly the problem that many hams have with the 11M crowd.
Out of sight, out of mind...as long as they keep their signals (or the splatter from same) out of the ham bands, most of us just flat do not care what they do.
However...there's always some wiseacre who want to cross the line; to test the waters...and ends up in either 10M or 12M, thinking no one will do anything about it.
On a non-related note: One of the members of a certain pirate radio forum has indicated that he has been conducting test transmissions on 80M, using as a frequency reference the colorburst crystal from an old TV set.
(3.579.545 MHz, for those unfamiliar with the frequency.)
He has been warned by other members of said forum to stay the heck off the amateur bands...
...and in yet ANOTHER thread on the board, a fellow pirate was wondering about setting up shop on 7.000.00 MHZ, as "...hams don't use it (that frequency)...".
Be on the lookout.

Man, for some of you THAT would / could be difeinately embarassing. But not 4 me.
Why would a person's interest in a communications-related topic or forum prove embarrassing for them?
For that matter, why wouldn't it prove embarrasing for you?
Perhaps you're more open-minded than some...

...nothing wrong with reading or replying to any of the topics IMHO...but some folks frail " hard core " egos would let it get in their way.
My vote is to leave things just as they are... the more complicated it is made, the more maintenance is required ( same with radios, cars, women.... ) http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Just let them sell them, let them talk to thier buddies who will convince them they can run it on something other than 12v (24 comes to mind) and watch the sparks fly.
Honestly, if they would stay on the normal 40, and would stick to the legal limit, I wouldn't care. Keeps them off our stuff. The only ones I would be concerned about are the ones on our frequencies (or sending spurs onto our frequencies). Other than that, let them enjoy thier dixie beeps, "Tain Ferrrs" and everything else. Its not bothering me where I'm at....and may soon be, for the most part. The only time it would concern or bother me is when it invades my QSO's.
Besides, it keeps a good amount of drivers entertained and awake at night....instead of falling asleep and crashing or whatever. That and XM/Sirious radio.

Ham radio Antennas; the Amateur Hy-gain DB-1217 7 element beam only has a forward gain of 9.8 dbi (isotropic) - CB antennas such as the Moonraker S27-4 #4 element beam has a forward gain of 10.5 dbd !!!
Yeah i never could understand the inflated gain claims either when i was into CB. I.E. the Antron 99 has 9.9 DBI gain??
Uhh ok.
I think CB antenna manufacturers do this becasue the average CBer seems gullible and ignorant. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

If you zoom in real close and look at the ebay photo, it has an on-off switch for the whack function. The operator doesn't always have to have the whack on.
But why would anyone want to turn their "WHACK-OFF" ?
Couldn't resist.
