Here is what I learned about the new Prescription Drug Plan.
You medical doctor examines you and decides what medicine you need. He writes your prescriptions. He is entitled to get paid for his service.
A pharmaceutical corporation develops and manufacturers prescription drugs. It is entitled to make a profit for doing so.
A pharmacy stocks dated drugs and a pharmacist issues them to you, being certain that you know how to take them and that they don't interact with anything else you may be taking. The pharmacy and pharmacist is entitled to make a profit and get paid for service.
BUT
Now a private insurance company must limit what prescription drugs you may have and charge you for the risks that they may be involved with. They may refuse to let you have any new or expensive patented drugs. They may have up to three different priced plans. They may have different prices in different states. They may offer a list of drugs that they cover and drugs that they won't cover. They can change the list at any time. They can limit the quantity of drugs to less than the doctor prescribes or require that the doctor be visited again for renewals. They may cease to operate in any state if they find they are not making a significant profit. They may illegally push certain drugs when enticed by the pharmaceutical corporations. They may refuse to work with any drug store that they don't want to deal with.
IMHO THE PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANIES DO NOT DESERVE TO BE PARASITIC on either the citizens who need prescription drug coverage (which is now partly subsidized by the government) or the government itself. Prescription drugs are costly enough and the government does not want to limit the manufacturers or lower the fees that doctors and pharmacist must earn...SO Why did they get private insurance companies involved and let them make a profit on the crazy plan?

Praise the countries with Socialized (You hate that word, don't you?) Medicine, damn the US with another step backward. No, make that one giant stumble over Bush's fat feet, the Medicare boondoggle is costing New Jersey billions as the state stuggles to keep medicines flowing to those lost in the federal system after the switch from Medicaid. This comes on the heels of near bankruptsy brought about by the corrupt McGreevy administration, the newly elected Corzine has his hands full with a state up to it's arse in debt as it is. Then there's the NJ College of Medicine and Dentistry bilking the system and now under federal supervision to avoid procecution...
