I have a Viktor ZG-4500, a Soviet made (circa 1970, I think) HF transmitter. It operates with a 6146 final. I have cleaned the rig, replaced the electrolytic capacitors which needed to be replaced and am now ready to "fire her up!"
However, in thinking about powering up this rig, I'm concerned that the 220vac, 50 cps input voltage requirement would present problems. I am considering plugging her into my 240vac, 60 cps clothes dryer circuit.
Is this feasable? If I duplex the dryer circuit, could I realistically operate the clothes dryer AND the ZG-4500 together? My "shack" is near the dryer so it's no problem in me monitoring the condition of both.
Now this may sound strange, but my wife has an evening dress (we attend a lot of dinners) which she dearly loves because it can be washed & dried at home--no need to dry clean!!! Unfortunately the material is woven with metalic threads (silver & gold). This brings me to another question. If I operate the rig and the dryer together while her favorite evening dress is in the dryer; will RF arc inside the dryer causing the metalic threads to fuse together and ruin her dress? Please respond because I don't want to end up successfully operating a vintage Soviet transmitter but at the same time ruining my wife's favorite evening dress. Your advise will be greatly appreciated.

C'mon!

This is an April Fool's question a little early? Right?

A 50 cycle transformer will work on 60 cycles. Not the best but should not be a problem. Just monitor it for heat during trial bring up.
Dryer is total metal shield, and antenna should be far enough away to not bother anything inside the dryer drum. Running on a common breaker/power lead should have no effect as long as you dont run both at same time. Dryer runs pretty close to the current rating of the breaker.
go ahead and experiment, I like experimenters over appliance operators, even if the appliance is a dryer.
