So you thought nothing ever happens on the moon?
WRONG!!!!!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You know those artist's renditions of moon colonies? They used to always show buildings and connecting tunnels made of glass. The above story kind of turns that into "What's wrong with this picture?" doesn't it?

Hmmm... not necessarily. It's in the future. We might come up with a 'transparent' steel. This would have the strenght of steel but be just like a window. They used that one on one of the Star Trek movies. Personally, I always liked the movies that show Mars colonies that have glass ceilings. Ummm... the place is full of craters. Wouldn't a meteor do something to that? See - that's where transparent steel would come in. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Carl Sagan referred to an incident in the 13th Century, when a huge meteor hit the moon. The effects were visible from earth, inciting all kinds of doomsday fear.

These have been going on for centuries. KWW just noticed.

Hmmm.
I dunno if the explosion on the moon is due to man made or natural causes. I know it wasn't done by Muslim terrorists because the Muslims believe that the Moon is more sacred than New York or Washington, D.C.
w2ilp (innocent Live Planets?) and the Moon is just being bombarded by meteorites because unlike Earth, it doesnt have an atmosphere for them to dissipate in.

...doesnt all those objects hitting the MOON alter its course around the earth ...even by a little bit to where the tides would be greater / lesser than they were before ?
------
also we as humans would need ( when and if we settle on the moon ) some kind of " super dooper doppler radar " to alert folks that another rock is coming to crash somewhere on the moon ? I can see it now, instead of weather forecasts on the moon , predictions of where if any meteors would crash on the surface...
Got an answer for that too... dont build too much on the surface, but put as much of as you can underground.
any more questions ??

I think they'd do something more like this than just hitting it with a small rock:

IMHO, this (*LINK*) (http://www.curbed.com/archives/2005/04/05/flatiron_fined_for_advertecture.php) is as bad as that.

Acutally it was transparent aluminum. It has been invented. see the link:

Interesting a link I didn't know about. Thanks.
All it would take is a big meteor to hit the moon causing a massive explosion that would send chunks hurtleing towards Earth. This would cause some serious problems for us. You all haven't thought about this or atv least no one has posted to this affect.

Just because no one has posted a link does not mean that the subject has not been discussed. Seem to recall a Popular Science article of that nature some years (in excess of 10) ago.
NASA has also thought about it.

No, but there are others. Ever heard of 1950D? That one has got our name writen all over it. It will be a long time be for it hits here. We wont see it, but future generations might don't find a way to deflect it from hitting us.
In 1985, one astroroid missed us by only 4 (four) hours! .

Dudes, remember if a big chunk were to fly off the moon we on Earth would be ground ZERO.
