PAQ:
The FCC is questioning the renewal of licenses for persons that are modifying and/or selling non certified (new "buzz word" for type-accepted) equipment for use on the Class "D" Citizen's Radio Service or "freebanding".

Check out the last enforcement 2 letters. #It seems two licensed individuals--I don't consider them hams, merely licensees--with the same last name have sold non-type certified gear, and have altered type certified gear for use on unauthorized frequencies. They did not respond adequately to previous official inquiries. #Now, they've been given an additional 20 days to explain how the evidence against them is circumstantial, basically. #The letters are just before all the footnotes pertinent to the Gerritsen case.
Ahh, I see, I'm sure there is a lot more to this story. I wonder if there are any hams selling those freeband VHF and UHF handhelds you see on ebay all the time. I can't imagine those being legal, with transmit from 136 to 174 mhz, etc.

Every little bit helps. Just wish Sandy Claws would come up with a hundred "Riley's" to beef up enforcement, and put some teeth back into the FCC's rules and Deregulation.

When the money that the FCC collects goes into the FCC coffers, instead of the General Fund, you might see that.

We hams can do a LOT! Case in point: I railed here often about the intruders on 10 Meters. A few responded positively, and maybe some of them actually went out and listened for Billy Bigrigger with his "10 Meter reddio wid dem 'extree' channels. #Indeed, *SOME-thing happened because I rarely hear LOCAL truck drivers on 10 around here--and I listen a LOT! What I DO hear are intruders who clearly FAR from me. I have to wonder WHERE all the hams that may be in that area actually are. #*Some* say, "It's none of my business". Or "I ain't got time". #Or--a myriad of other excuses why they can't get out and listen for bandit activity. Some hams in a nearby town discovered a couple of expatriot CBers up on 30 MHZ FM with their "export" radios. They were promptly turned in. i haven't heard them in 6 months.
The "hundreds of Riley's" is US, boys and girls. While it may be none of our business, there is a thread on a CB forum (www.cbradio.com?) about adding external antennas, extra frequencies, and more power for their FRS radios! How long do you think before these goofs wind up down on 147 MHZ? We can't do much about other bands, but we certainly can have a positive effect on OUR bands!

Good point, but they'd more likely end up on 70cm - those FRS tihings are UHF redidios..

...oh...one more thing
if you cant transmit your message legally, dont transmit at all.
...or is that too complicated ?

Unfortunately, even IF the money did go the FCC, it would be a mere drop in the bucket. ( But we all know that will be an eternity AFTER Hades drops below -273 degrees Celcius.)

I wonder when he is going to go after Ebay where amps are sold for the CB bands, and are advertised as such. Blatently. Seems like time better spent than a couple of individuals..........

Isn't the FCC looking into altering that rule so that the CB crowd can buy those things easier?

No. It's just that the rule didn't stop them one whit!
So the changes on 10 Meter mods will really not affect anything. It merely makes it easier for hams to mod, or buy amps with 10 enabled. Them CBers are gonna do what their gonna do, so long as there isn't an army of agents out there shut 'em down!

...what about them their rules dont they understand ?
" No amplifiers on the old CB band "
(( Hey I know it sounds corny, but it does rhyme ))
and another one while I am it ---
What about them rules dont they understand;

I have been saying pretty much the same thing for years. If I can go to the local hamfest and buy a used radio and come home and clip a wire so can anyone else who can google for radio mods. WHo says there arent freebanders in the 136-174 range already. Its not uncommon for hunting buddies to use VHF marine radios in the woods far away from any waterways and it wont be long before the people using modified radios start making their way into the amateur bands above 30 mhz they way they have on 10 and 12 meters.

Hi fleabanders and glud boogies,
"Its not uncommon for hunting buddies to use VHF marine radios in the woods far away from any waterways..."
The Jersey Shore is a great place to hear fishing boats on little used USCG and nearby railroad channels. FYI, considering the accents most are out of Brooklyn NY. The foul language would make a 20 year Navy veteran blush, yo ho ho and a bucket of squid.
Elizabeth NJ is a great place to hear unlicensed wharf rats AKA container jockeys operating FM in the weak signal portion of 2M with the usual colorful trucker talk.
NYC is a great place to hear just about anything on any frequency.
The only way to slay the dragon is an army of Sir Riley of Hollingsworth style knights with orders to shoot on sight but dream that impossible dream Don Quixote, dream on, dream on. I for one am VERY thankful we now have a knight and his squires, there was this awful gap I fell into back in '95 and almost quit having traded one CB for another. Food for thought, sooner or later Riley will move on or retire. I hope they install the only one who can fill his shoes, another HAM.
