View Full Version : LONGWIRE INSTALL
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Made my sling shot to shoot a wire in a tree,,,,
Started shooting the fishing line in the tree,,,,,
One damn branch kept getting in the way and deflecting my shot,,,,,,
I live in the middle of no where on 30 acres with 1000's of empty acres around me (state park)
I took my AR-15 and eliminated said troublesome branch that was about 40 foot high.
Long wire installed after that with no further complications.
QST has my permission to use this. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Maybe you should have glued the fishing line to the bullet. That's a great solution though and should give those anti gun folks something to think about.

I've thought a homebrew, air-powered Lyle gun would be a nice antenna launcher.

30 acres and 1000s of acres around you? I'd start looking at those newfangled "restricted space" antennas. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif YOu poor suffering soul!

I always thought a modified spudgun would be fun to launch antennas with...
You're lucky you can use that weapon where you live. I'm talking about the slingshot, not the AR-15! Here in New Jersey, the slingshot is a banned weapon. You can't have one or use one for any purpose. It's listed right along with the switchblade knife and brass knuckles.
My area is too densely populated to consider the Model AR-15 Tree Pruner, but that's a very creative solution.

They sell Wrist Rockets in grocery stores up here. Sure glad I don't live in New Jersey. (As Pat Paulsen said, so wisely...."Without guns, how can we shoot anyobody?")

It does!
A spinning reel clamped to the bolttom of a Daisy or Crossman pump-up air rifle. #The end of the monofilament fish line epoxied to the bottom of a Bic Pen center along with a piece of red yarn to act as a seal against the propellant.
Muzzle load the air rifle using a piece of brass welding rod as a ramrod.
Pump the rifle to its maximum recomended number of pumps, aim over the tree, take a deep breath, let it halfway out, hold it and then gently squeeze the trigger...
mutter a few choice words, then take off the safety #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif #aim over the tree, take a deep breath, let it halfway outand gently squeeze the trigger.

Rather than blast the branch, couldn't you just re-aim a bit??
BUT, at least the antenna is up, that too would be my priority !! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

If you did that, you wouldn't get to do any shooting...
And that is no fun!

I took a branch out with the K98k. No satifaction quite like it.
Although the satisfaction came the next day; I shot it full of holes, and it came down when the wind came up.
Was fun watching those bits fly out the backside though ;)
Landlady claimed I was missing it, until she saw the aft end of the branch.
High power rules ;)

I used my phaser - but I had to put it on stun as not to vaporise the tree...

My E-11 Imperial Blaster took off all offending twigs on one isde of the first tree, then ran out of tibanna gas cartridges. Had to climb the tree and take them off with my lightsaber http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Re the Pat Paulsen reference:
Remember when he was running for President? #He was the nominee of the Stag Party.
Remember his campaign slogan? #We Can't Stand Pat.
One plank of his platform was anti-gun-control: #We can't outlaw guns. #What if you're walking down the street and see a moose? #Or, what if you come home and find some guy in bed with your wife - what're you supposed to do? #Poison him?
A great man.

A good ol .22 with hollow point long rifles works well for pruinin too... and when that doesn't work, the 30-06 with balistic tips usually does. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif You'd be suprised at just how big a limb can be cut down. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I always thought electric cookers and refrigerators etc. were installed. Surely a wire antenna is hung.

Yeah, darned those spotted owls anyway. Have you tried them fried?
I, too, live in the wide open spaces of the central NM desert. Problem is the word "desert" is New Mexican for "No trees." Slingshot is ready. As is the 30-30. Nuttin to shoot at. (Well, an owl now and then.) Nearest tree is 12 miles to the east. I can see it with my binoculars. Even the AR-15 won't talk to it, if I had such a gun.
Gonna grow me another Radio Shack 30 footer. 3 ten foot aluminum masts. Makes a very slim tree with no branches. Owls can't sit on it, either.
A whole generation, or two or more, will grow up in NJ and never, ever get to break the neighbor's window with a slingshot. Another part of Americana outlawed - Banned in Boston. Or in Camden. First thing you know they'll ban bubble gum.
Ain't got no AR-15. Got a .45 1911A1, but if I have to climb the darned tree (I do have two of them, skinny little things, about 18 feet tall) to shoot off the branch, I may as well take the string up with me. (Not that I can't shoot a .45 - was on the USAFE pistol team with one, back in the late 50s) but they have a tendency to lodge in the branch rather than neatly clipping it away. Although, once upon a time, there was something from the Velvet Ammunition Company, called "People Stoppers." Come to think of it, they would indeed remove a branch, and a rather nice sized one. Used to carry a magazine of those things. Even then they came in packages of eight, for around ten bucks, at least for the 1911A1. Yep, they would remove a branch. Whether from a tree or a crook. Anyone remember those loads? Bubble-packed bullets, with a warning: Don't drop these!
Times just plumb keep on changing.

My guess is those bubble wrapped bullets MAY be banned in Boston TOO!
I remember the plastic jacketed 22 bullet mounted on a 30-06 shell. had some tremendous velocity like 4000 ft/second or whatever, but outlawed because had no grooves left on it to identify the gun.
They also used to make a military 30-06 just FOR mounting wire antennas. Never actually saw one, just adds for them from years ago.
