I need a break from all the negativeness that permeates on the forums. Ever since the NPRM came into existence its been pretty much the same ol stuff negative, negative, negative. I hate to say it, but in a way it has kinda made me feel like whats the bother to even try to upgrade if theres nothing positive about the hobby if its all doom and gloom ? Yes i 100% intend to upgrade but i dont need to get on here and read about all the anti NCT and code/no code tripe. Just dont need the negatives.
I just need a break.
To those of you that have talked to me off the forums you have been great. I hope to talk to you again soon..

Try a new tactic. Get off the internet and get on the air.
Determine the difference.

I've never understood when folks say this, and several have. #What some view as negative I see as passion for what people believe in, and why is that a bad thing (negative)?
Until my last good HF antenna came down in a snowstorm a couple of weeks ago (It's going back up this weekend!), the rig was always on, even when I was reading and posting here. #Maybe that helps, to hear the debates being played out here and not so much on the air.
At any rate GUZ, whatever keeps you interested in amateur radio works for me. #Getting on the air does put things back in perspective. #Most of what you hear will be what is the brotherhood that is amateur radio. #At least today, pactor robots don't roam the bands, and most 75 meter ssb qso's are not the cesspool everyone writes about. #Now somebody is going to follow me up to argue that, but listen for yourself.
Do whatever it takes ... everyone gets "keyboard smashing" mad here sometimes, but hey, it's better than shooting up your co-workers, or anything equally stupid. #For some, this is a place to blow off steam. #For me, it is a source of knowledge, a barometer of opinions and trends, and a place to share my opinion of what I think amateur radio should be. #I don't see any of it in a negative light.
See ya soon and 73,
Luke

I stopped participating in the code debates a few months ago, as it was just too hurtful. I know exactly how you feel.

Just dont post any messages for a while...no need in a " goodbye " and expect the rest of us to beg you to stay.
The first 8 words works. Really the second word through the fifth word.
Yep, part of you are already confused.
Rule #1 - qrz.com, eHam, Hamsexy and places like that are NOT ham radio.
Rule #2 - I think AD4MG hit the nail on the head when he said that what you are seeing is passion about this mode. I mean c'mon, its not like we are asking anyone to stick hot needles in their eyes. Believe it or not, some of use really do enjoy CW and all we are trying to do is share our enthusiasm with you by getting you to at least try it. Admittedly, some people go a little overboard and react negatively when some snot-nosed young punk Technician thinks our favorite mode is a waste of time without even giving it a chance.
Rule #3 - These message boards can really wreak havoc on your blood pressure, self esteem and ego.... if you let it! Don't let it!
Rule #4 - Get on the air. Actually this should be Rule #1. If you follow this rule, all the others really don't count!
Happy Holidays!

Why do some feel it necessary to announce their departure? It’s something that continues to baffle me. Perhaps it’s a cry for help, like a suicide note or graffiti scratched on the bathroom wall of a Terrible Herbst gas station.

This post is to officially inform everyone that, though the original poster is taking time off, I will not be doing so.
I feel that since an official announcement is warrented when people depart, that pershaps official announcments of not departing may be a good idea also.
Thank you kindly for your time.

Never be afraid to show your own individuality. It what makes one unique!!
One should be judged by his/her character not weather one can/cannot copy or learn/not learn the code!
Now we can judge you based on your own mottos. How have you lived up to them by running away in tears?

Isnt an individual making a POST when he or she POSTs that the individual will not be making a POST and more or reading other peoples POSTs ?
Like, honestly, who gives a hoot that you are a quitter ? It takes a lot of guts to stay here and continue POSTing, even when the vast majority of the other POSTers dont agree with one of your previous POSTs !!
Plus we have FRED to thank for the privilege of allowing us to POST our thoughts ( random as some of them may be { I resemble that remark !! } ) on the many & varied topics that is covered here at qrz.com.
Maybe he ( the dood who wants to quit POSTing ) will change his mind and decide to stay through at least the end of 2005, and continue into 2006...after all no one like s a quitter.
quitters never win & winners never quit.
( I read that somewhere, but I forgot where, so it aint my idea )

This big thing we call the internet provides each and every one of us with a soapbox to yell and preach from. Probably most will say and do things on forums that they never would think of saying to someones face. The is no real accountablity. Just because you see something on a website does not make it the truth or based in fact. Look at the problems Wikipaedia had the past few weeks. Don't let this stuff get to you. Ham radio is much much more. And with this I include myself but a lot of us hams are on the edge with opinions and so forth. Why get upset when someone disagrees.
If you seriously let what happens here on these forums affect your attitude, then you need a real gut check. Don't announce it, just leave!
Oh and by the way, this will be my last...........HI HI

I tried to get on the air once.
I fell.
If you spend the same amount of time you spent on the forums on the air then you will have a lot of fun. Report back sometime. Good luck. Merry Christmas.

Yes, but I can be at work and on the forums, not on the air, thank you very much, Mr forum time police! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
Forum time police ??
Where do I sign up?
Does this mean I can wear my orange vest and use my flashing lights when I am on qrz.com?

When you fall off the air, the thing to do is to jump right back on.
One should'nt take these forums (or ham radio) too seriously. The only things I take seriously are my children ,my wife, my health and God. They'll be around long after the other stuff. The rest is just entertainment.

Are you giving your computer away so you are not tempted to reply to topics. #The withdrawal symptoms are stronger than alcohol and tobacco. #
Perhaps I should come pick up your computer and hold it for a while(or longer if necessary) to strip you of any temptation.
The symptoms of forum withdrawal are ugly to observe and you may need professional help!

It's not my fault that you don't have a radio at work. Go put the antenna up. Step away from the mouse. [/bullhorn]

even the professional help is ugly.
The kicking, screaming, breaking things, electroshock therapy, all the mind altering drugs.
Not to mention what the patients actually go through.
It can get downright scary.
