View Full Version : Is it just me?
Of course its preparation for the "free" upgrade. I have seen several clubs advertising for hams to go ahead and taken the written test so they will be ready when the code is dropped.

I think you are full of crap. I started my upgrade process 3 years ago. I passed my General and Extra over 3 years ago. I didn't think I was going to get sick and put in the hospital on and off for two years. I am working on the code and want to pass element 1 before it is dropped. If you are going to be an ice hole to me becouse I don't have the code down yet then you can just bite the big one! You know I have gotten along with everyone on here for the most part, but you are just out of line starting more code crap. So once I have my upgrade are you still going to be to good to work me on CW? Quit being a jerk! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I'm not feeling the love here.
Sorry to hear you were in the hospital, is it painful having your funnybone removed?

Depends on where they re-insert it.
I don't think that can be a good thing. #

My funny bone only works when I am in the joke forum. I don't see anything funny about your post. I also don't see anything funny about being in the hospital. I lost my house, business, and have been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. So maybe you should pull your funny bone out of you *** and put it where it belongs.
I passed the code first after having my NCT for 12 years. Good thing about code first is the instant gratification of new operating privelages. Why take a test and get nothing out of it until you pass another test? My element 1 csce has allowed me to make some dx contacts and work a bunch of different states, just having a csce for element 3 wouldn't do that for you.
I suggest to anyone interested in upgrading is to take the "harder" test first, which ever you think will take more study time.

Somehow managed to delete the original post...so here it is in all it's infuriating glory:
Quote[/b] ]I've noticed a fair number of posts of late where NCT's are taking the General written, but not taking Element 1 because they're 'not quite ready.'
Is it just me or does anyone else smell a little BS around here? #I've seen it at local exams...I think they're planning on that free upgrade ASAP.
And I can't spell for poo either.

Joe--
That was the direction I took. #I didn't see the point in not sitting for both tests at the same time. #I passed the multiple guess for General first time out, then sat for the code and failed it. #Took a break, went back in, dug the cash out and sat for it again...got it the 2nd time around. #It was pretty darn exciting to come home and be able to get on HF and sign KC9ECI/AG.

Sean-
That's a tough hand life has dealt you and I'm sorry to hear that you're not in good health. #Keep plugging away on that code. #I don't know how you're studying for it, but this is the advice I got when I was trying to learn it. Study twice a day. No more than 15 minutes at a time. Don't just listen, practice sending as well. That was the thing that got me over the top with the code...sending. It matters not to me if you're a code/no code anything, if I hear you on the bands, I'd be happy to shoot the poo with you. #The point I was making is that it seems some folks are betting that they will be able to grandfather into HF if they have those written exams out of the way

Been using tapes but I just memorized them. The computer software works ok. I did take the code and missed half of the questions. For some reason if I miss a character I sit and think about it instead of moving on. I also seem too invert some letters like e & n. Next test is first Sunday in Febuary and I plan on being there. I have used HF quite a bit with MARS but I really enjoy contesting. I wish they would keep the code requirment. I have said this many times. When I get my upgrade you better watch out during the contests http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Doc has me on so much Predinsone I dont sleep.

What a crock of crapola...... I'm not quite ready yet. That's a hoot. I just can't understand why anyone would waste their time taking the extra exam if they can't get the code element.
It's five words a minute for crying out loud. That used to be the little weenie entry level speed for snot nosed novices. Most of us OF's as the no code whiners lovingly refer to us, passed that when we were kids.
I guess that makes us smarter than you doesn't it.

Well that just makes you special. Good for you, now get bent.
Boy you fellas are tough on each other....I am keeping "my own" code requirement here! I would love to QSO with any of you no matter what your status. I do see a lot of crying though and its lucky for some of you that you never had to make the trips to the FCC offices for your tests! Imagine that! Next you will be able to take it on the good ole computer most likely!! I wish you all the best and for those with interest, stay on the cw, it really is a blast!

All I'll say is this:
If there is anything I personally can do, within my means and ability, to help you learn the code, don't hesitate to ask.

Personally learning morse code aint THAT hard.
Realistically it just takes a tiny bit of skill to learn it, along with some guts and a tad bit of coordination, as well as some backbone to get the situation done....and if you dont have all those human talents then you can just wait a while longer while the rest of us have all the fun you dont get to.....we get to experience the HONOR of making the effort to get the job done and not wait for a u s government ( fcc ) handout.
Hey, if a 47 year old white man from Alabama can learn morse code, what IS your flimsy excuse ? It is ONLY a measily 5 words per minute ( not 13 - 20 like in the old days ), so what IS the problem...you part of the " no child left behind " program ? Are you " special " ?
....just r o f l at all the silly excuses we get to read about why they cant do it...sometimes those of us who HAVE done it ( passed the cw test ) have to turn our heads to keep from laughing out loud at some of the silly / stupid excuses folks will tell for NOT passing the simple test.
Of you really want something to laugh at... just get on a local 2 meter repeater and ask some of the local NCT of reasons why they have not passed the morse code test...and I am sure you will hear some hilarious reasons / excuses. Just try it, and enjoy a good laugh so close to CHRISTMAS.

Congratulations to you Joe (PAQ.) You get the satisfaction that goes with your sense of accomplishment. Too many folks don't seem to care about that anymore. It's a sign of the times though.
Sean, we all have issues. I got sick in Jan 05 and will never work nor drive a car again. Life sucks but you can't let it stop you. I am sorry you have problems now. Best way to go is to get busy as you can and keep your mind moving forward.
As my grandmother used to say, even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
Good luck.

I'm kinda like George Costanza--I can match bummer for bummer the vast majority of people when it comes to litanies of physical and learning disabilities. As a result of living with the phyical ones, my body, particularly the joints, is now 20 years older than I am. So I recognize the attributes of someone riding a self-pity train. Forgive me if I don't say sorry about your problems. You have that covered.
I will tell you this, though. The self-pity train only has room for one passenger. You're your own engineer, conductor, and brakeman. And that train runs through pastures full of cows. It's up to you to push the cows off the track before that next rain comes along. And you won't be able to push yourself out of your seat if your humerus is broken. I suggest you put a splint on it and start pushing.
Laugh, and the world will laugh with you; cry, and the world will laugh at you.

Just think.....when the FCC drops completely all Morse testing we will no longer have to listen to another airhead say he is going to learn Morse to upgrade. I think it will be the greatest good ever to be experienced by all amateurs.
