Any takers? XYL is away, all caught up on QSLing, and DX does not pick up till about 0400 UTC. How about 7027 kc for a start? I will call at 0200 UTC and then again at 0300 UTC if no takers early. Please join in, no SWL!!!!
I'll be calling CQ.
paul
I noticed you are just down the road from me, but I have to QRT at 8 tonight. Oh, and it would have to be more like 7127 kc, and somewhere between five and ten wpm. Or, you might be just a little to far away for line of sight and a lot to close for sky wave.
Maybe some other time

I don't know why, but I operate almost 100% of the time between 7020-7040, and have NEVER heard a call that I see here on QRZ !
I know you guys are OUT there... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Just got off 40. Heard less than half dozen total QSOs from 7 to 7.1.
Horrid noise.
Worked N9TNQ about 100 mi south of me both 559 and then signed 5 min later as band cond worsened.
YUCH
Actual S7 or so noise on dipole at about 50 feet. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
BTW, my usual background winter noise level is below S1, this is a very quiet location for man made noise.
So how did you do, Paul ? I heard some stations going back and forth, and actually heard some 30 wpm that was EASY to copy ! But I didn't catch your call in there. I guess we are just too close together for 40 mtrs.

Hi Jim
One QSO with a non-QRZ guy. Funny how after 10 min I got the old "Don't want to keep you and will let you go" when all I had was time!
But tonight is another night, I'll try again at 0200 and 0300. The band was pretty horrible for the USA, but 5R8GZ in Madagascar was pretty loud here at about 0330 UTC.

The local power-line hash here was horrible, I heard a KE4BEI (I know him, he's nearby) faintly signing SK up at 7105 but that was it. Even the broadcast signals were well down. On the way home though, I heard a KB8something calling CQ over and over at 7116. Nice strong signal. I don't have a key mobile and he was gone by the time I got here.
My ol' standby, 30 metres, was stone dead.
I think someone in my apartment building recently got a new piece of consumer electronics that emits a ton of RF hash. Maybe a lamp with a dimmer. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
40 meters usually has about an S-6 or 7 noise level, and 30 and 20m have about an S-8 or 9 when he turns on that whatever-it-is. The fact that my antenna is a 30' piece of wire zig-zagged around my balcony doesn't help. I hardly hear any signals anymore.
I think most of my operating is going to be in the wee-hours of the morning or I'll take the rig out to a park.
Hope to chat with some of you on 40 sometime. I often hang around between 7.020-7.040 (I am QRP only) when I can hear anything on the band.
0727 about 03:00 for me. See you there if condx allow.

B there or B square, I'll really call you in 15 mins (4:30 PST). If you have a receiver and a paperclip, you'll hear me.

Darn, I missed you Steve. I heard you chatting with a guy in Toronto, but then my local S-9 QRN kicked in and it was hard to listen anymore. I'll get back to the radio now and keep listening around 7027.5 in case anyone wants to give it a go. I'll throw out some CQs, too.

Never heard you. I made 3 QSOs on 7027 in a row, vy strong sigs from everywhere but didn't hear you...
You must have a heck of a noise level, I was running a kilowatt and just got 599 from Toronto and PA...hearing Europe now on 40. VE3XAZ in Toronto was 20/S9 here. I don't have any noise level.
Will go work some EU stuff but if you hear me, break in and let's see.

On 7.027 from 03:00 to 04:00. Had 4 QSOs, one with a guy in Toronto, one amateur in Santa Fe, One in Cape Cod, and one local. None of you guys heard.

Too late for me! I was QRT by 0230.
Might be on a tad later, tonight -- maybe. Either that or be dragged kicking and screaming to the malls by the XYL.

In Oklahoma I have been having a horrid S9 noise level since Thanksgiving. I believe I figured out what it was last year. Many of my neighbors with young children go all out with outside holiday decorations. Many have inflatable Santa's and snowmen. The electric airpumps make a terrible racket. Might be some of the other lighting too. I don't have the racket in the early morning.
One guy leaves his snowman up well into January.
Oh, well. I can't be too much of a grinch. They reluctantly let me have my antennas. Also I don't want a certain few of them to know that I can be had with the flick of a switch.

Will try again tonight at 09:00PM Central (03:00 Z) on 7027.
WIK,
I heard you on with a K3 station after the Toronto station - you even mentioned to him that you were looking for me - but you couldn't hear my 5 measly watts when I tried to break in. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Next time I hear you on the air, I'll give it another go. Your signal was very strong here in Seattle, although I could not hear the stations you were chatting with.

Sorry about that. The K3 was very strong, from PA if I remember correctly. Seattle's closer, but maybe too close for the time of day.
Band goes "long" shortly after sundown and the east coast stations become extremely strong for me. So does some of Europe. S9SS in Sao Tome was 599+ last night on 40, and that's close to halfway around the world from me.
Timing. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
We'll try it again, maybe a little bit earlier if I can...

Been working with W7IJ near Yelm WA. on 7042 past few nights between 0200 and 0300Z...using four watts (TenTec 1340 QRP rig) and the open wire-fed20 meter terminated VEE beam antenna pointed at the west coast, loaded up on 7042.
W7IJ just blasts in here at Fairbanks, and says he hears me S6 to S7..plenty good enough to pass radiograms...'course his 3 el yagi on a 100 foot mount helps considerable.....
