Rob--
That's why I like using that last.fm site. I have a plug-in that goes in Winamp..and a they have it for other media players as well...that uploads the names/information of the songs I listen to and then gives me 'neighbors' that have similar musical tastes. I can then browse what they've been listening to. I've found some good stuff that I'd not heard before that way.

Good selection. I listen to a lot of the 60's stuff. Often when I'm contesting in one of the digital modes like RTTY or PSK, I will load up a good long playlist and just tune visually with the waterfall. I tend to load a lot of 60's then. Dick Dale, Beach Boy's, Jan and Dean, et al.

I listen largely to 70's classic album rock. #Not exclusively but mostly. #I have a taste for Philadelphia soul, some older motown, baroque classical (Albinoni, Pachelbel, Bach, etc,) some golden oldies, and a few (heaven help me I didn't plan it) 70s dance (yes ok I confess, disco - ugh) tunes. #My winamp playlist is short at about 400, but still I'm not going to paste it here.
To get a good idea what I listen to, if you have Sirius, listen to channels 14, 15, 16 and a little of 7 and there you pretty much have it, again, with the additions I named above.
And yes, I'm a child of the 70s and I did blow my ears out with VERY loud music and headphones. # I actually burnt out the voice coil on one side of a pair of AkG studio monitors while they were on my head.
Huh? #Did you say something?
ps: Can you believe John has been gone 25 years now? I remember that night like it was last night. I still shake when I remember listening to Jimmy Fink reporting it . . .

I could post the complete track listings for my dozen-or-so MP3 CD's - at least those discs which have been specifically laid out as compilation mixes [to be played in the order in which the tracks are numbered!] and are not simply archive backups - but that would be a HUGE post. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Edit to add info: One such disc, for instance, opens with "The Best of The Cars in MY opinion," which takes up the first 39 tracks. #["Drive" is not on this list. #I don't consider it one of their best songs.] #It ends - at a total of around 140 tracks - with approximately 30 tracks from Gary Numan. #In between, it contains the likes of David Bowie, A Flock of Seagulls, Big Country [preceded by one track by The Skids, Stuart Adamson's band before forming Big Country], The Clash, and Big Audio Dynamite.

That is why burnable cd's are so convenient. Buy it, burn it, then put the cd away for the possible loss of the file. You can always use that for the replacement file. Thats the idea behind backing up any purchased content from the web. Always back it up.
Itunes is a great program IF people learn how to use it properly.
I've been using ITunes for Windows since it came out in 2003. I have never had a problem with it. Backing up everything you purchase is a very important practice.

Ah yes, many good ones from the House of Schickele -- the University of Southern North Dakota (or is that Northern South Dakota?):
Foghorn, Bell, Kazoo, and Gargle
Rondo Mucho Grando
Unbegun Symphony
Classical Rap
Allegro, But Not Too Mucho
Dill Picolo
(and my all-time favorite)
The 1712 Overture
This stuff is so much fun for those who don't know much about classical music. #And that much better for those of us who do! #Everything classical ever should have been.

I think the only PDQ Bach piece I've ever heard, on the Dr. Demento show, was one titled something like "My Bonny Lass, She Smelleth."
Maybe that fractured rendition of "Good King Wenceslaus" was one of his too. <shrug>

My 20 'purchases' on iTunes to date have been compliments of the US Army. If I want music, I'll buy the CD and rip it.

Hello.
I got to thinking.
My Nokia N-Gage has well over 250 songs in MIDI format just for ring tones, all the full song.
The PSP has something like 1200 songs.
On the laptop is a DVD audio disk with a few dozen more to go to the car player.
The 40 Gig USB drive has thousands.
A lot of classical, heavy on the 50's and disco.
No modern country or hard rock.

Nope. #1712 it is. #Just about the most fun musical satire you'll hear.
PDQ Bach
And NSF, that's one awsome list. #I know it's great stuff, 'cause I don't recognize half of the names, and I love all of those that I do! 'Bout the only guy I know who ISN'T on your list is Frank Pourcel and his French Fiddle!

that's why you make backups. it's not reasonable to expect to re-download stuff if you lose it, imho.

CD-R's are cheap enough that there's not much excuse for not backing stuff up any more.

After listening to the SS SSB contest for a good portion of the day, I need some tunage. Think I might check out the PDQ Bach.
