Just say MOO ya bunch of sheeple!

From Seattlepi.com:
"It's difficult to craft an exemption (for establishments that have) a business model based on poisoning people," said Bronson Frick, associate director of Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights.

"Washington would be only the second state to approve a ban by ballot measure, after Florida. Frick says that's partly why this state's ban would be the strictest -- it hasn't been negotiated with bar, restaurant and tobacco interests, he said."

Montana's legislature this year pass a smoking ban in all public places -EXCEPT- casino's. The casino lobby was so strong that they water down the original bill and they have until 2008 to become smoke free. However if they serve people under 18 then they must have a smoke free place. Bars are also allow smoking until 2008 if noone under 18 is allowed.

California does have a law like this, but its a bit more watered down. I wonder if they will try to now 'beef up' thiers if this one in Washington takes hold...

We've been smoke free in this county for a few years now, and I have to say that when I go a restaurant or bar someplace else and have to put up with that stench, I really get homesick (and just plain sick) fast, and I'm an ex-smoker.

I never realized until long after I quit just how bad that rancid stuff smells. I dread getting on an elevator with a bunch of smokers coming back from their smoke break. It's not just the smell of the cigarrettes - I can handle that. It's the fact that smokers don't have a sense of smell. And some of them smell like they live in a litter box. Menthol smokers are the worst. They smell like a litter box that's been sprayed with DEET.

Yeah, yeah, I know - there's nothing worse than an ex-smoker. But you puffers just don't know how bad that is.
It will literally peel paint.

I had to get a hotel room one night. The only one I was able to get was a smoking room it stunk like hell...

I would like to see a alcohol ban at all sporting events. It would bring more family people and you would not have to put up with the obnoxious drunks falling down and spilling your bear all over you

(in the background over the TV) "A man was arrested in Spokane for armed robbery who had a criminal record that stretched back to his first grade class. He averages 17 felonies a month and was out on parole. We are advising all the little old ladies in Spokane to keep their doors and windows closed and locked even though its summer now and many don't have air cond........"

I define good beer as not cheap.

Bud and Original Coors i can stand at times. The rest domestic beer tastes the same to me. Most of the beer I drink is darker and is 'natural local breweries'. I often drink homemade beer too
Wife's got a cousin in Moses Lake. He made good beer http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Last I heard, Washington still had state-run liquor stores.

Got a "buddy" in Eastern Washington, and we did a liquor price comparison about three years ago. I forget what we compared exactly, but it was cases of hard liquor. Jack Black, that sort of stuff. His best "quote" came in at about $850. The exact same thing was about $550 here from a local discount "warehouse". (Yeah, that's a ton of booze).

Sin tax.

Being something of a "liberal" my friends are often surprised to find out I take umbrage to legislation such as this. If some business owner wants to allow his or her patrons to smoke, what business is it of mine?

I'm not even sure what the laws are now here in Oregon. I would never patronize an establishment that allowed smoking, and not just to avoid the smoke. Every restaurant, cafe, deli and bistro that I frequent is non-smoking simply because it's good for their business.

I do very much support smoking bans other places. Portland's transit district recently banned smoking at bus and rail stops, which is really nice on those rainy days.

Yeah, I hate when bear gets spilled on me, when it claws you and growls and all that..

I'm fine with Cali's laws as they are, except when some moron steps JUST outside an open door so the smoke comes breezing back in.

So many smokers complain, but then they (some, not ALL) are so STUPID and inconsiderate they bring these draconian laws on themselves. And yes, I smoke for a few years, always well outside, in my own car when kids werent in it, or on balcony or while filling up my gas tank.

I despise and am sickened by sidestream smoke. The only thing worse is living in a fascist, welfare, commie, nanny state.

I am amazed at the lack of desire for freedom in America today. We are going the way of all collectivist states encumbered by millions of rules..... down.

I agree with AL2I. I think this law is crap. Same with the handgun ban in SF. People are up in arms over the Patriot Act, yet they vote away their freedoms whenever given the opportunity.

Selfishly, I don't want Eastern Washington to split off! We need a counterbalance to the extreme left here on in the west. But I wouldn't blame you all if you did.

In a nutshell.

KD7WHQ
11-11-2005, 05:02 AM
In Washington state, if EVERY cigarette and pipe smoker went internet for supplies, and rolled their own (in the case of the cigarette smoker)..

In six months the state would be near bankrupt.

Why? The taxes on tobacco products in this state displace the taxes others would pay, and at an insane level.

A carton of cigarettes is above $50. At least $25 of that is tax....state tax, mind you.

So now the smokers in this state, who pay a very disporportionate level of tax, are persecuted. "This will lead people to quit," but we'll finance the state with the tax. Right. Picking up on anything here? Cut your own throat perhaps? Hoist by your own petard? Mixed message at a minimum?

I think it's time for a "prove a point" grassroots movement.

Personally, I RYO. Works to about .06 per smoke.

And while more than considerate of non-smokers, I take grand offense at this BS.

Enough!

Buy cigarettes in Delaware & sell 'em in the land of the appleknockers. Getting caught would probably get you in more trouble that rape & murder though.

Doing a bit better than that, come spring.

Got two packs of Virginia Broadleaf, and Burley tobacco seed. Should be a nice blend.

See what I can do with a 50x50' area.

If it plays, the operation will get large enough to keep me completely supplied next year. And that is a legal way of shortcutting it all ;)

Grow yer own, roll yer own ;) lol

The smoke running days are done, JTY.. It just isn't worth it anymore..
