View Full Version : Paging Condoleeza Rice!
To Condoleeza Rice, Secretary of State, United States of America:
Dr Rice, I need you. I think I may have spawned an international incident via my postings on QRZ.COM. Dr Rice -- may I call you Condi? -- I am an amateur radio operator, and have been licensed by the FCC for 35 years. It has always been my charter to foster international goodwill via ham radio. In this instance, I believe I have failed.
See, there are these two blokes, two chappies if you will, who live across the pond. One is in England, and the other is in Wales. To protect their privacy, I won't mention their names. Let's just call them G7HEU and GW4RCM. Well, it seems that I have managed to repeatedly offend these Old Beans, most recently by suggesting that the British have bad food and terrible dental hygiene. While this may be quite true, it was very inappropriate for me to point this out in an international public forum.
I attempted to "apolize" to these gents, but to no avail. I even stated that I admire the British people, their culture, their music, their history.... I told them that the British have stood with us in times of trouble many times in recent history, and I was grateful for that.
All of this has, so far, fallen on deaf ears. Their bitterness toward me, sadly, continues. In fact, in recent posts on the QRZ.COM forum, these fellows have referred to me as "fruitcake," "pansy," and "cretin." Normally, our forum does not permit childish name calling of this sort, but I have no doubt that I have come to deserve their ire for having insulted them and hurt their feelings in the past. Condi (if I may call you "Condi"), these are sensitive fellows, in spite of their smug posturing, and I have heard that I have made at least one of them cry on several occasions.
I regret having treated Brother Hams Across The Sea so harshly, but no matter how many times I "apolize" or generally attempt to "make nice," I cannot seem to repair the diplomatic damage. Is there anything you could suggest? Or perhaps, are you available to intervene personally?
Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.

Dear Sigh,
I can only speak for myself:
There was an exchange between us. It became juvenile on both sides. I decided to do something more interesting instead.
You then got upset because you were ignored. You posted a pointless 'over' on the other thread. Now you are so desperate for a response that you have started a whole new thread.
I'm sure you would be happier if I fired a few insults so that a another argument could ensue. I can't be bothered.
Enjoy your self,
Steve.

Don't bash the food too much. Last time I was there (about 5 years ago), they had begun to spice up the food a bit. And previously, I had always found English coffee about as bland and tasteless as the traditional American stuff. But last time, most coffee shops were selling various blends of dark roast, as well as espresso and cappuccino.
Could be the Continental influence since Britain joined EU. In addition, spice has been introduced into the cuisine by the widespread immigration of worthy oriental gentlemen from former colonies.
Of course, the English still spoil perfectly delightful tea by contaminating it with loads of milk and sugar.
Speaking of the latter, I was happy to find that you can easily and cheaply buy brownish, coarse-grain semi-refined sugar at any grocery or supermarket, that actually has a little taste beyond just "sweet." You have to pay 3 or 4 times the price of super-refined white suger when you buy it here, if you can even find it.

I've been twice to England and both times I enjoyed myself. #I don't remember the food being bad in fact, it was pretty good in most of the restaraunts where I ate. #The Beer was good, the people were generally very nice with one or two cranks, just like here.
The television was a little weird but that was a long time ago and they only had 6 channels at my hotel. # So whats the beef with the Britts? #They never did anything bad to me.
One thing though, you know you guys drive on the wrong side of the road.

No complaint about the British food here...unless of course you want to talk about my father-in-law slipping some kidney into the curry. *ack*
Nothing better than a good kebob on the crawl home from the pub.
There is a British style pub/supperclub in MN, called Sherlock's Home. They make an EXCELLENT Bubble and Squeek in Wow Wow sauce.
Shepherds pie...again, not to be beat.
Condi Rice seems to be an idiot with the President's ear. Be careful what you ask of her, else we may invade and rebuild London.

Steve, OM SY,
I have laughed hard at some of your postings. Most of us (me, at least) understand the humor behind the "venting". It's a wonder that my quite neighbors haven't called the State Hospital with the little straight jackets to have my carcass hauled off at 3AM. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
My problem with some f Her Majesty's Royal Subjects is that they have tried in the past to throw the last Presidential Campain by writing letters to a county in Ohio (remember?). This was sponsered by a British Socialist "Bird Cage Liner and Fish Wrap" called "The Guardian". Some here on this forum tried peddel this propaganda. It didn't work. The good people of Ohio kinda told them to mind their own business. I guess some of them across the "Big Pond" can't find enough problems with their own goverment and would like put their nose in our internal affairs where it doesn't belong.
BTW, George Bush was elected President of The United States for a SECOND TERM in spite of best effords by that fireplace starter "The Guardian". They think that Americans are stupid. Yep, that's what I got out of it when I read their main headline from this puppy trainer. They should be the ones to "apolize" along with every British Subject that contributed to that socialist letter writing campaign that they started.
Happy Veterans Day to all our Hero's past and present.

I used to love the U.K. I have cousins there, on my mother's side of my family.
Ever since the U.K. wouldn't give the Falkland Islands to Argentina my enthusiasm for the U.K. has waned. And where was the Monroe Doctrine pledge, which obliged the U.S. into keeping foreigners out of our hemisphere? I dunno.
I also blame the Brits for what they did in the middle east after WW1 and after WW2 and for enabling the British Protectorate of Palestine to be taken over by Zionists in 1947 at the expense of the Arab majority.
If it wasn't for the UK there would be no unrest in the middle east today. BTW if GWB lied about WMDs in Iraq so did Tony Blair.

I felt that the British were justified in keeping the Falklands and I'm glad they prevailed. They need it for the same reason we need the Maldives, Hawaii, Guam etc.
As far as giving Palestine to become Israel, a look at what caused that will show that Britain had very little choice.

Is it true all English and Welsh school boys, attend their classes in little girl's dresses, knee socks, #and their hair in curls?

I really didn't know. #That's what a friend told me and I didn't believe him. #It seemed a little far fetched thal ALL schoolboys did that. #I can see where just the Nancys were all gussied up before school, and not every person in England could be a Nancy. #Now Wales, that's a different story. The boys there can just sing a little TOO good. Makes me nervous when I visit.#

A big pot of "CAWL" on the stove, and the Morriston Male Voice choir, in the background , singing a rendition of "Myfanwy" A few bottles of the local Hooch, to warm the cockles of your heart.
What more does a simple man want, It's all here for you, ready and waiting.
Let me know when you arrive , I shall be in the local hosteliery dining from the finest.

Thanks for the invite! #I hope to take you up on that some day, soon. #You are most gracious, and very kind, to offer your hospitality to a rough at the edges Yank, though a country gentleman, too. #My hats off to you sir, and I take back any unkind words I might have spoken regarding your Country. Indeed, I too would like to sample some of that fine hooch. I'll visit but only if people promise to drive on the correct side of the road.
