The UK Regulator Ofcom (equiv FCC) have now released the MORI Poll that they carried out on UK Radio Amateurs.
This survey was probably the most extensive ever, being sent to 4500 Radio Amateurs (8% of the UK total), they got 1572 responses.
Its primary purposes was to acess attitudes to changing the UK licensing system but it also provides a valuable insight into the Amateur community, demographics, club membership, use of Internet, use of Radio etc.
The report can be downloaded from

Hello Sirs
Interesting!
Well I have read this with Interest, It is a Shame that less than Half of those that received it bothered to fill it in and return it??
Those who did not return it cannot think much of their Hobby?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
It would have been better if those who did not wish to fill it in and return it where able to contact them and say so, and another person who was interested could have done so!
Well according to the Poll Amateurs who mostly use their Radio are members of the Rsgb (Rsgb Licences Ltd)?? What Rubbish? So if you are a member of a Club but not the Rsgb then you are not likely to use your Radio as much?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
I am sure this Poll will be used by Ofcom to throw some weight behind their Licence for Life, So this could happen soon? Lets Hope so
The Consultation regarding this can be found here for those Interested? # http://www.ofcom.org.uk/media/news/2005/05/nr_20050526

For what its worth I think the MORI poll was very informative. Wether all the people who were sent the questionaire filled it in or not, quite a few did respond. It was nice to see opionions that were other than the RSGB's point of view. People seem to forget that the RSGB is a business and as such it has to look after its own interests first which is usually in the amateurs interest, but not always.

Hello Sir,
It was Informative as you say and you are correct in saying that the Rsgb is a business!

Its a full limited company and as such has to make a profit, which I dont have a problem with. I only have a problem when they try to mislead amateurs about what is best for the hobby when in reality it is what is best for the RSGB but that is another debate.

Hello Sir,
What is confusing Rsgb members is that the Rsgb (Rsgb Licencing Ltd) tell the Membership that they are.....
A NON Profit making Radio Society Run by Amateurs for Amateurs?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
And if you telephone them they will Freely Admit that they are a Ltd Company??

In every single copy of RadCom they clearly state that they are "Limited by Guarantee". Any organisation that does a reasonable amount of business will be limited liability.
I don't see what point you are trying to make.
BTW the RSGB Licences Ltd is a dormant company, Registered No.02603325, originally set up in 1991 to bid for the Amateur Radio Licencing business. SSL (formerly part of the post office) won the business instead so as they didn't get the business RSGB Licences Ltd has never traded.
For info the Radio Society of Great Britain is Registered as company No.00216431 incorporated September 25th 1926.

Not Listed where ?
Quite a number of UK calls are 'Particulars Withheld'
on the public databases.

It is quite usual for not-for-profit organizations in the UK to be companies "Limited by guarantee". #In the event of an insolvant winding up (Chapter 7 for our U.S. friends), the liability of the members of the company is limited to (usually) £1 each.

There are two types of "Limited" (LTD) company in the UK: A Company Limited by Shares (shares; profits etc) and a "Company Limited by Guarantee" (NO shares, no dividends, not-for-profit) #Both use the term "Ltd". #Are you sure you know which one the RSGB actually IS?
