This weekend is the CQ WW DX Contest (SSB), and there are dozens of DXpeditions all over the world on for this (and the CW version). Anyway, these guys are setting up their stations NOW and making practice QSOs for the contest, both on SSB and CW.

If you are new to DXing and need to increase your DXCC totals, the week BEFORE a contest is an easy way to start. Of course, so is the contest itself, but many are intimidated by the contest itself (although there is nothing to be scared of, even the best of 'em started out as beginners at one point).

Just a thought for those who are new to DXing.

Good, maybe I'll crank up on 15 metres before work tomorrow to see what's happening. I miss my long-wire already...

I'm doing everthing I can to make CDX good for SS weekend. I've already changed my arrestors and improved my ground connection. I'm currently improving the connections on my R-7 between the traps and radiating elements. I'm building an additional receive only antenna, to connect through its own matching network to the RX section of my IC-735.

And this Saturday night, I'm throwing ritual into the mix. When I re-christen the improved antenna system during the Oktenna weenie roast, I will stand SE of my tower, and spit a little 21 year old scotch to the NW to facilitate a conductive band opening between me and the Yukon next weekend. A slight sacrifice to finally get a Clean Sweep! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

hope some of them would work stations in my Tech w/ code priviledge allocations. 10m SSB is my best chance. I need 89 more countries, then I can be on DXCC

Yes, condx have been enhanced simply by extra stations with good signals being on the bands.

Last night with zero effort (one call), worked JT1CO in Mongolia, VR2XMT in Hong Kong, a bunch of OH's and SM's over the pole after dark and all sorts of stuff on 20m around 0130 UTC. A PY8, prepping for the contest where he'll use a special callsign (a PX8 or something) was S9 on 20m with my antenna switch in the "ground" position. That's pretty strong, when the coax between the rig and the switch is the antenna...

Take advantage while this stuff's going on, because the day after the contest it's all likely to disappear again.

Last night was the first time I ever actually heard JT1CO in Mongolia. Tried for 20 minutes to contact him, without luck. But I had seen this station "spotted" so many times that actually hearing it was a first.

The difficulty in that case is not the poor conditions, but all the other hams who do not use 10m because supposely "the band's closed" http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

BTW, I am actually with my friend VE2SNK on 28595KHz
