I kinda made one contact. Came home from a basketball game and turned the radio on. All of a sudden someone is sitting next to me yelling out of my radio. Then they're gone. I caught n2yet and hopefully he heard me. I think he did. I'm going to throw a 6m yagi up on the tower in the next week or so, maybe that will help me pull these guys in.

I'm surfing the HRO website at the moment and that 3 element Yagi from Cushcraft would sure look good under my 2M Yagi....:p

I have never actually used 6m as I never had the capability until recently and then it seemed dead... what are the general CQ portians of the band and is the mode USB like normal or FM?

I used to think That Cushcraft was the best, but, when I switched all my beams to M2 it was like night and day. M2 is in my opinion better.

If you plan to call CQ on USB, then call around 50.125 as that is the National Calling Frequency for 6m SSB. But you can find activity from 50.120-50.210 when the band is really open. For now I suggest being on 50.125.

East. NJ, Ohio, that general direction. Dick, K0MN was working them left and right. I ran a few then went down to 10M and played for a bit.
The 6M Moxon is not long for my roof, I'm going to be replacing it with a 3E Cushcraft as soon as it gets here.
Looking at the popnet site, Justin K9MU seems to have had a hit with another beacon station in the UK.
Lets hope the band opens again tonight!
I hope you can get back on 6M ASAP, a band opening doesn't seem right if I can't work you at least once.

I bet 2M is hopping tonight. I'm getting lots of odd tones and fire department traffic on my pager that isn't local.

It should! The 6m5x is 5 elements on a 18' boom. The 3-element Cushcraft is on a 6' boom. $100 vs $270, too.
If you're limited in space, it doesn't take much to turn a 6' boom with 10' elements. These antennas weigh almost nothing. And it works MUCH better than the omnidirectional vertical antennas.
But yeah, I would sure hope that a 6m5x would run circles around a Cushcraft A503. It should even do quite well against the 5 element Cushcraft. This is like comparing a Chevy to a Cadillac. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
