View Full Version : How Do We Know?

How do we really know the world is round? Did man really visit the moon or was it an elaborate hoax orchestrated by the United States Government and assisted by Hollywood? What is the universe? Space? Does man not seek to explain that which is impossible to explain in terms he can understand? Can the real universe and space simply be that which can't be explained because we don't have the means by which to explain it?
Enlighten me!

Ken:
The meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything is 42.
This has been proven to my satisfaction by a 5 book trilogy.

How can you be certain of this?
A fool can ask more questions than a wise man can answer.
For example, prove to me than there realy was a George Washington. Ot what about atoms, viruses, electrons, the Civil War, or all the other things you have never seen.
If you fail to accept that things exist that you have never seen or have any direct experience about, you find yourself in the position of having to establish all the laws of physics, medicine, chemistry, etc. before you can use that knowledge and advance it.
Good Luck!!!!

>A fool can ask more questions than a wise man can answer.
For example, prove to me than there realy was a George Washington.<
::Proving it to you isn't important. Proving it beyond reasonable doubt is fairly easy to do, based on carbon-dated writings signed by George Washington, and thousands of sketches and paintings of him, and that he lived well within the Age of Reason and historical compilation. I think it would be much more difficult to prove Jesus existed.
>Ot what about atoms, viruses, electrons, the Civil War, or all the other things you have never seen.<
::Witnessing the influence of electrons is pretty compelling, like witnessing the influence of a magnetic field -- you can't see that, either, but you can certainly witness its influence and the difference between its presence and absence; atoms and viruses actually can be seen. The Civil War was so recent it was not only well documented in writing and paintings, but it was photographed.
::I think a far more difficult argument would be to prove there's a God.

If a man says something and his wife's not there to hear it, is he still wrong?

The world isn't round...It is a somewhat imperfect sphere...BUT................ a round and around it goes...and when it stops nobody knows. (I quote from Major Bowes)
Answers to all of your questions can now be found using internet search engines. If you don't believe what you read...That is OK as long as you don't claim to be an engineer or scientist.
Your meaning of life is whatever you feel life must mean to you. You can be happy and satisfied with your life if you are at peace within yourself.
If my wife says something...I'm happy if I'm not there to hear it.

The world is not flat and I can prove it. If it were flat I could hit a 2 meter repeater in China with 50 watts.
I rest my case.

One question that confounds me: If a man talks in the forest and there's no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?

Buddha approaches the hot dog vendor:
"Make me one with everything."
The Enlightened One hands the vendor a $20 bill. The vendor turns away.
"Where is my change?" asks Lord Buddha.
"Change must come from within," replies the vendor.
Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The reason that your signal doesn't go all the way to China is due to gravity. Signals that travel near horizontal are called ground waves. They're called ground waves, because they lack vertical momentum and are quickly pulled into the ground by gravity. Sky waves on the other hand, leave the antenna at a higher angle and have greater vertical momentum. They can travel much further distances, but eventually, gravity pulls these signals back down to earth.

Nah, gravity doesn't exist. The Earth sucks. That's why stuff sinks to the ground.
