The wife doesn't like antenna's, so I am looking for something I can mount on the ground or tripod that can be taken down during non-operation. #I was thinking about the Comet CHA-250B and was wondering if anybody had any info on this antenna, or if they had any recommendations on an antenna? #Work primarily 75M and 40M. #The way the yard is set up I can't do a wire. #I have a random wire (dipole) on the roof at about 14' elevation in a horizontal "V" and can receive great, but can't get out worth beans. #The house is about 14' tall and there is about a 8'-12' space between the house and fence/trees, so I figure I need something I can get up high, so that is why I was planning on expandable mast and tall antenna.

Was also wondering if anybody had any experience with the Hy-Gain DX-88 and maybe how it compared to the Comet?

I have this antenna mounted on 20 feet of pipe.
This gives 20 feet plus the 23 feet of antenna.
I am using a icom 746pro with this antenna. The swr is flat or real close to flat on all frequencies. That is without using the auto-tuner.

As a tech, I can only listen to the hf bands which this antenna has good ears for.

You can listen to 160 meters, but cannot xmit.
You can receivce and xmit 80m to 6m.

There are 2 measurements that the install sheet tells you to do. After that, just hoist it up and leave it alone.

It only weighs 7lbs. which is nice and light.

I think this antenna is the best bang for the buck.
I got mine for $399 at RJI electronics in Caldwell, NJ.
