AndyB is a ringtone programmer for one of the largest wholesalers of ringtones in the UK and a musician and composer of 20 years experience. In his spare time, he is also to be found on the high frequencies using the oldest of digital communication systems: morse code.

Although mobile phones have had morse alerts programmed into them since early days, there has never been an easy (or free) way to get personalized ringtones in morse code until Andy turned his attention and his love of the medium to the problem and created a completely free web resource that generates morse code MIDI tracks playable on most mobile devices from whatever the user types in.

It's also a good way to send morse to others in messages.

Thanks for the site. (http://www.braintank.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/midi/tmp//2388.mid)

I used a similar program (WinMorse) to make wav files for my computer. A machine that talks just annoys me. So I replaced, the "Ta Da's," "You've got mail," etc with various Q signals and prosigns. Those are the only notifiers I need.

I did morse ringtones on my Nokia by using the free software they provide to write musical tunes. Just used 1/8ths and dotted 1/4 notes with rests and made all the notes the same. Used the mulitple ringtone feature to set up groups with different "rings". My basic ring is my call sign. When my wife calls from home, her office or her cell phone mine rings SOS in morse. :-)

I guess I am not the only person to do this then. #I originally wanted my call as my ringer on my phone. #After finding out that my phone does not have enough memory for a ring that long plus the fact that each note has to be programmed in by hand, I had to settle for "RING". #

I find it funny though. #When my phone does ring, I let it spell out RING at least once to see if anyone around comments about it. #I have not found anyone yet at random that catches it.

Depending on the phone you have. (Go to howardsforums.com and or the Bitpim site) there is a freeware program called Bitpim that will allow you to work with your phone. All you need ( again if your phone will work with the software ) is a cheap cable from ebay and you can load these mid. files to your phone. I set mine up from the site, saved it as a .mid file and loaded it into my phone and it works perfectly. I now have my call as my ringer. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Good for you for tackling Morse Code but have no fear, if the Code disappears altogether as an on-air mode it will have little or nothing to do with whether Morse Code proficiency remains as a requirement for HF privileges. #It will be because hams have lost interest in it and I don't see that happening for a while yet.

My friend Bo (KE5COY) Has a mp3 enabled ringtone phone and he created files using a windows based teaching program that produced .wav files and converted them to mp3 and loaded them to his phone.
When someone calls it says: "CQ CQ CQ DE KE5COY"
When he gets a voice mail it says "Voice Mail"
All in CW. Kinda fun.

I did the morse thing just to get on HF (I had built a 40m xcvr, wanted to use it). Now I'm hooked, it's unfortunate that hams in the future won't be required to at least try the best part of Ham Radio.

Doesn anybody know how to get these CW ringtones into a recent Audiovox cellphone? Tube HF rigs with antenna tuners are easier to operate than these new cellphones!

I will gladly buy beer for someone who can come up with a way to load ringtones into a Verizon Samsung A650. It's my only gripe -- apparently there's no way to do it other than buying commercial ringtones, of which none are Morse of course. I don't really need the latest tripe from Brittney.

What is better if you don't have the software to connect to your phone and it is free. Check out www.bitpim.org. I was able to get the interconnect cable from Radio Shack.

Anyone know how to download it to a Sanyo PM-8200(S)
I'd love to have a CW ringer! Thought I could do it via Sprint's website but no way.

Really like this idea. Would like a simple "CQ" for a ring tone on my Nokia. Probably have to buy a cable from ratshack to get a MIDI tone ...

Ringtones are completly rediculous and have nothing to do with Ham radio! Cellphones in themselves have been abused and are irritating and disruptive to others in many places such as church, weddings, funerals, movie theaters, restauraunts, schools, and meetings.Ringtones are making them even more silly and anoying.

After some digging, it is possible to program a CW message up to around 20 letters or so DIRECTLY into the Siemens C35/M35 series phones.. [ yes I have done this] It maybe possible on the M65 however.. to infrared a .wav file to it.. the M65 thinks it is a PC.

Now if only someone can find a way to put CW ringtones into an AUDIOVOX 8100 - - which, as I understand it, is not programmable.
Any suggestions - - other than 'buy a new phone'?

Finally, somebody with an opinion the same as mine. Cellphones have their place but they are grossly abused, as are the people around the abusers. There is a good reason the original telephone call boxes were completely enclosed!

I meant to say that that cell phones do have their place but they are abused alot and when they are, then they are a bad thing. Cell phones can be very annoying and obnoctious and those people that are that inconsiderate to others with them need to have a cell phone shoved up their a**.

I agree with you about movie theaters, but restauraunts?
http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Reason dictates that if you're in a place where is is ok to talk with a person with you, it is ok to talk on a cell phone.

There are inconsiderate cell phone users, but there are also people who are too thin skinned about others cell phone use.

I've had a blast with the Morse ringtones. I have the name of the person calling me programmed in morse code that way I don't even have to look at my phone. Since most people can't copy code, it's somewhat private. The best part of the morse ringtone was that it was free. I usually pay a couple of bucks to download one. I have a motorola V550 Camera Phone.

BTW KC0LUL, I really enjoy my [ridiculous] ,silly and [annoying] urban hip hop and ganster rap ringtones. Combined with my morse ringtones it makes me feel like I am a thug ham operator http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif. Perhaps I'll be at a [restaurant] across from you sometime so that you may enjoy my Mike Jones "Back Then" or Eminem "### Like that" ringtones. Then I'd like to see you try what you threatened to do with a cellphone and a certain body part. Like Roy D says, "How big a boy are ya?".

With opinions like that, you ought to upgrade your ticket, get ya a 2K linear, and jump on 75 meters late at night. You would fit right in!!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
# #Your post is very typical of your type, rude, obnoctious and very disrespectful, not to mention instigative and confrontational.Someone like you should have never been permitted to get a Ham licence in the first place because it is for mature people not babies. I will be listening on the air and if I hear you geting out of line or abusive on the air I will personally see that you get busted by the authorities!
# #You should stick to cellphones, ringtones and the internet with other childish people. If you have that much fun with ringtones then you have got to have way too much idle time on your hands.
# # I used to be a general class a long time ago and let it expire I retested for tech because I spend more time on 6m, 2m and 70cm on nets and APRS and other Digital systems and have not used code in 25 years so I did not want to bother with it. I take some of your insults as compliments and I think I will go back to general class because I miss my old old old friends on 160m,75/80m,and 40m. I still have my HF gear. Yes I do have a couple of 2K Linears!
# #I have been into ham radio probably before you were born. I may be old but I can benchpress 400 Pounds.
# #Am I responding to another Glen Baxter K1MAN?
