You actually ADMIT that you talk to Alabama ?

Why punish yourself...surely you CAN do better !!

Alabama is easy to talk to...hard part is getting me to answer you.

Why restrict yourself ?

Put that antenna up another 10 - 15 feet...there is a whole world waiting to hear from you.

Turn that RF POWER knob all the way to the RIGHT and see how far you CAN talk.

Me ? I am the one with the echo mike and 5 tone roger beep on 75/80 meters. Well, really there are 2 of us, but I am the weaker of the three.

When I drive highway 24 from Moulton to Decatur, I drive 55 and have a contest to see how many other vehicles pass me. I have a seperate contest to see how many 18-wheelers pass me.

I always have more pass me going FROM Moulton to Decatur, than the other direction. Either they are afraid that what they are going to Decatur FOR will sell out b 4 they get there, or they are just in a hurry to get OUT of Moulton ( which IS understandable !! )

Has any one else ever tried this stunt between two towns or am I all alone ?

one more thing to do when you are really bored ---

Hook up the ole CB and listen to truckers tell their life stories to each other.

NEVER will you hear one admit that he did any thing wrong, it is ALWAYS another person ( co - worker, family member, spouce, etc ) that did something wrong in a situation. The one TELLING the story on cb 19 never verbally admits doing any thing wrong, it is always some one else.

Now, if there is a HERO in the story, it IS the one with the microphone in their hand.

--------------------
Oh one more thing to do when you are bored involving radio is to listen to conversations on 2 meter repeaters. But dont listen too long if you are driving, or you may fall asleep.

well actually I am new to the whole hf spectrum.
I am still doing alot of listening.
all I have is a Kenwood ts120s and a dipole-(3actually cut for different bands)-about 35-40 feet up strung between 2 trees.a ranger 2960(hybrid-2950 chassis with a 2970 control head) with an a-99 about 35 feet up an oaktree, and my ft2800m with a generic dual-band vertical about 70ish feet in the same oaktree.
I am running out of space for antennas.not complaining but i think i could use about 3 more.
my back yard looks like a small antenna farm. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I do pretty good considering my lack of equipment.

How about at the grocery store, when you're at the cashier, ask if they think whether or not you have a proportional amount of toilet paper for the amount of food you have.

I still remember this poem from when I was a kid:

Nothing to do, nothing to do.
Put some mustard in your shoe.
Drive a nail through your foot,
light a match and eat some soot.
Draw a picture on the wall,
track some mud down the hall.
Now curl up in mommies lap,
close your eyes and take a nap.

Pretty weird huh? Has anyone ever heard that one before?

I seldom get bored, just too many things to do in life to get bored. I read through the postings and only 2 people mentioned going to QRZ when they get bored. I think that is what I would do,some of the postings can have you rolling on the floor with laughter at the idiocy of the #postings .
Going to have to ask Fred one of these days if he advertises QRZ in the Pre-School Bulletin. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

hook your radio too your bed springs and see how far you get out. also try lightbulb dummy load. you may be suprised

When my friend and mentor W0BCJ was still alive he worked another ham that was using one of those uncovered steel spring full sized bed springs that was leaning against the wall in the second story attic of his house.

He had been using this bed spring for many years. A storm had blown his tower with the tri-bander on it down one spring so he set the bed spring up for temporary work while the insurance beat around the bush for over a year before finally deciding they really did have to pay for a new tower and antenna. These fellows worked primarily CW.

When I had my CB shop I sold, amongst other things, a little dummy load made in a PL259 connector. There was a resistor and a 2-D cell flashlight bulb in there that were then covered with a red plastic end cap. I faithfully used one of these dummy loads whenever I was testing a radio. I was truly surprised one late summer evening when a fellow a few miles away answered my testing. We discovered that we could work each other just fine using only these dummy loads.

I bought a non reactive dummy load that I still have and use today.
