According to this article, Americans are not the only people in the world who are openly distrustful of their "leaders."

Two out of three people polled around the globe felt underrepresented by their governments.

The Japanese are deeply suspicious of authority

There is a low level of trust in all types of leaders -- military, political, religious, business and media.

The majority believe there is little they can do to change their lives.

Religion achieved high ratings in the lives of Americans and Canadians.

And, not surprisingly, Muslims and Protestants are the most likely to trust religious leaders and give them more power.

That link is strange - there are words missing.

Maybe the politicians found it. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

The people in Iraq did not trust Saddam Hussain. WE frred them. Now they can not trust each other.

Enuf Sed.

w2ilp (I Like Protestants)...They have no living Pope....They had a free choice of preventing war with Iraq as suggested by the Pope or of protecting Zionists. I guess that they made the wrong choice out of ignorance of sociology and history. I won't blame their religious convictions. I forgive them...because they know not what they do.

The article is wrong about Israelis. I dunno who they polled in Israel but no two Israelis trust the same politicians and none of them trust each other.

w2ilp (Israelis Loathe Politicians)...Sharon needs bodyguards where there are no Palistinians.

A healthy mistrust of government is essential, it's the cornerstone of our democracy.

The Republican party used this as a kingpin. Unfortunately, it was changed to "a healthy mistrust of government, but a healthy trust of us will keep you and your family safe". That's when I bailed.

Power corrupts, the politicians in this country are no different. If they were so interested in serving their country and their fellow citizens, they wouldn't accept a six figure salary and pension to do it.

What ? !!

When I read the words " we are not alone " I thought that aliens had landed in NO and were using destructo-rays to burn the buildings to make a space landing pad for their spacecraft...run hoses out to our oil rigs and draw the oil out of the ground to power their spacecraft to go fight some merciless enemy on the far side of the universe ( using planet Earth as an intergalactic gas station )
and that instead of seeing PResident BUSH on tv at 8 pm tonight , that we would see some space creature telling us all those famous words we love to hate " we are from the ( fill in the blank ) { government } and we are here to help you " .

But I guess I was wrong ( again ...second time this week ) !!

Try with Internet Explorer. The missing words appear as embedded links in the text with IE. I read it first with Mozilla, then tried IE. It leaves a different impression with the missing words filled in.

From the article, "One shouldn't have any doubts who runs the world. It's women of course."

No doubt about it. Of course when thing go wrong, who gets the blame?

I used to think that way, back in my younger naive days. since then, though, I have seen many religious "leaders" for what they are: charlatans. This is especially true of those on TV who "claim" to heal you or make some "wonderful" miracle happen. All it takes is MONEY!

"Just put one hand on the radio and your other hand in the bathtub, and you will feel the power!"

No one who runs things ever gets the blame when things go wrong. Never happened, never will. It is like the sign I saw years ago said. I don't remember the exact words but the thing basically went like this:

I never get to drive the train,
never blow the whistle nor ring the bell,
but just let the damn thing jump the tracks,
and just see who catches hell.
