Well my fellow dudes with stinky pits, and we all have them, so don't say yours don't stink. I have yet to find a deoderant that will kill the oder from my undersrms. All the advertising about mine is better tahn the other brand is a bunch of stink.

Don't you agree?

Does your OL complain about your stinky pits?

Exactly. Stop the sweat, stop the odor.

Other ways mask it. Until the mask wears thin.

Deodorant is for people who are allergic to antiperspirant. What works for you depends on your genetic background. If you are of Italian heritage then find out what people in Italy use. If your grandparents came from Madagascar, then find out what they used. Simple math really.

Now, I gotta say... About once a month, my XYL complains about the smell. And I agree -- it can get pretty bad.

So, I wind up searching for the soap and figuring out how to run the bathtub. Again. Deodorant, though... I suppose I could buy some of that, but a monthly bath with cheap shampoo seems to do the trick. If I'm in a good mood I'll even use some conditioner. It's the hair that causes the smell, you know. I thought about shaving it all off, but that just seemed wrong somehow. And wouldn't that cause a massive drain clog?

But, once the bath is done, we're good for another month or so. I don't really hate it, but it's not exactly my idea of fun because I always wind up getting soaked.

Now, wait just a dang minute here. I thought you were talking about stinking pets.

Sweat is nothing more than water and Salt, and by itself is odorless. #It is the compounds harboring bacteria that attach themselves to the water and salt, that cause the odor. #By ingesting massive doses of beer, orally, these bacteriaii are killed by the beer precipitates that exude with the perspiration. Try this, you'll find it works wonders. #If your spouse still detects a faint odor, just up the dosage a little and you should be fine. #If it still persists, dose the wife. #Increase her #dose until there are no longer complaints.

KWW- Now that I'm 'hip' to the issue, I can attest to DFP's solution. It does work wonders. In fact, since going with this plan, I only use underarm products on days where I actually go to work. It's probably not necessary even then, but you never know when I might have to impress a sweet young thing with my "scent."

I can fully attest to the fact that ever since trying the beer diet (I thought I was alone -- THANK YOU, DFP), it hasn't been a problem whatsoever. In fact, it seems to have the added advantage of giving me more time for my hobbies!

The problem is that here we have people from countries that don't take a bath. Not in a month. Not in a year. Probably once or twice in a lifetime. They reek. You can sometimes smell them a block away. In the Winter. They put on deodorant, yet wonder why they have a problem. *DUH.*
All the deodorant/anti-perspirant in the world will not work if a person isn't clean. I sweat a LOT, yet the YL says I do not have an odor problem. I'd suggest a deodorant for active people. Try Right Guard Extreme Sport Gel. Works for me.

I work at a warehouse facility where my job is to log trucks in and out of the yard.

Truck drivers, like any other workforce, have 99% of the force that is perfectly fine, and the 1% that will just drive you absoloutely nuts. But, like any workforce, they have that small percentage also that only believes in the monthly shower, either that or they are severely allergic to water.

Now, a good portion of them just smell like they forgot right guard that morning, and that's understandable if you're tired, driving 10+ hours a day-you just forgot to grab that can and apply before getting out of the truck to come check in. But you have those few that....man, even Fat-B of Austin Powers fame would even say stinks.

The thing I don't get about the ones you can smell over 10 feet away is how they can stand THEMSELVES much less offending everyone else. Now, I understand that most people don't notice a little smell on themselves, but there are 2 in particular I recall because of the fact my nose hairs still burn at the thought of them. One was male, and one was female. Both of them you could smell from 20 feet away, and both of them not only stank to high heaven, but thier TRUCK cabs did also when you walked past it.

That would definetely be beyond the scope, I guess. And when other truck drivers made comments to them about it, they just ignored it. I don't see how you could ignore YOURSELF much less others who are offended by the stench you are carrying around.

I've smelled pretty bad BO in my life, but the 2 truck drivers who checked in here were by and far the worst. They were definetely not representative of the group as a whole.

Then on the other side, you have the ones who put on a half bottle of aftershave, perfume, or whatever. Thats an entirely different topic.

I still think though that with this job and lack of bathing of some people, that a gas mask be issued as standard equipment at this guard post, though. Especially when the temp gets above 100-even my deoderant at that point gives up about mid-shift, and a reapplication is definetely nessacary.

Unfortunately, there are some people who have a serious medical condition where the sweat produced is very acid, and this problem is incurable. Some people suffer from smelly feet and even if they wash their feet every three hours, and wear clean socks the pervasive odour still returns. So in some cases, showers, baths, deodorants, soap, and anything else you can think of are not effective.

I am lucky regarding sweating, I suffer with an underactive thyroid which causes me to sweat profusely when I work in the garden even in the relative coolness of Britain. In the space of a couple of hours I will have to change underwear and sports shirt probably twice, but there is no odour.

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.©

All those gems are true. #Antiperspirants curtail sweating and deodorants mask odor. #Generally, a deodorant has little lasting power when not combined with an antiperspirant - the sweat washes the deodorant onto the clothes and its aromatic nature makes it evaporate within a couple hours, and there you are sweating with no protection. #An antiperspirant alone can keep you dry for up to several hours but will eventually wash away, depending on how much your body is trying to cool itself. #The combination products will keep you dry for just as long. #It will also tell you when you're starting to sweat because you'll smell the deodorant on your clothes. #Remember, not everybody likes that fragrance or we'd all be wearing Right Guard. #I'm with VCE, an unscented antiperspirant works best for me.

As for why any of us have stunk up the place at time or another, it's because the bacteria on our skin start to chemically alter the oils, fats, sebum, and dead skin cells we shed, and make a soup on our skin of acids and aromatic compounds that basically stink. #From the time a person bathes, it takes around six to twelve hours for these bacteria to go to work, unless of course we're cool/chilly/cold, in which case it may take 24 hours or more. #Sweat or no, our body will still exude sebum, oils, and dead skin cells that the bacteria ultimately go to work on and sooner or later we stink.

Why do some people stink more or differently from others? #Body chemistry is a huge factor for folks that have diabetes, for example. #They tend to sweat short chain sugar compounds that bacteria thrive on, creating smelly acidic compounds detrimental to the skin. Also, everybody's bacterial skin flora is different and different bugs deposit different chemicals on our skin. #Pity the poor devil who winds up bathed in oleic or butyric acid - YUK.

I've actually had smelly people reverse years of misery by simply taking long soaking baths in a soapy water with a dilute amount of bleach to act as a bacteriacide. #I cup of Tide and a cup of bleach does wonders. #It can be repeated as often as necessary. #Getting rid of some of the nastier skin predators, such as Propionibacterium acnes, Staph. aureus, or Strep. pyogenes usually requires antibiotics.

For most of us, regular bathing does the lion's share of the work. #But, as usual, W3SY has an eye for the obvious:

I saw someone comment about cologne and perfume abusers. Now THAT'S pretty wicked! I once had some lady on the other side of the cubicle wall that apparently would splash on about a quart of cheap, foul smelling perfume several times a day. I swear, it was enough to gag a maggot. Melted several pairs of my contact lenses. Who thinks this crap smells GOOD?? It's hideous! Make it stop!

Then there are doodz who wear cologne. In my opinion, ANY cologne is too much. First of all, what kind of man wants to "smell like something" at work? Just curious. And there is no smell in Heaven, Earth, or Hell worse than what you get when a cologne junkie is in a public lavatory stall. There is SOMETHING about that combination of bad cologne and "toilet whiff" that could make the dead and the living change places. Let's hope the terrorists never get ahold of THIS formula. We'd have to surrender within minutes.

(SYdebar -- I have no proof of this, but I'd suspect that guys who wear cologne to work are the same people who line the lavatory perch with a cushion of rolled up toilet paper, then fail to flush it, thus leaving the unsavory upholstry for the next tenant to clean up.)

Pardon my confusion, but where did the Al Capp reference fit in? Dick Tracy was not a creation of Al Capp.
"Dick Tracy" was created by Chester Gould and hails from Pawnee, Oklahoma. Some of the buildings in this small Oklahoma town is adorned with his comic strip including the Pawnee Police Department (hmmm... imagine that!).

Dave,

It's okay to HUMAN. Everyone's entitled to make a mistake.

Al Capp was the creator of "Lil' Abner" and "Fearless Fossdick". Also the section of Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California where the SR-71 was built was referred to as "Skunk Works" taken right out of the "Lil Abner" comic strip.

I have to use spray on antiperspirant. I break out in rash if I use foll on or stick type. It seems to clog sweat pores and becomes painful after a few days.
Sprayon type, such as Right Guard, evaporates in a short time after application and I have no problems.

I deleted many posts by several individuals, and probably should have deleted the entire thread.

Keep it clean, remember, this is a family site read by all.
