Poor Chinese hams. No VOIP for them! Wouldn't surprise me too much if Chinese hams weren't allowed to be on Echolink, either. Too hard for the government to monitor, maybe?

And here's one on the Communist government in China catching spies. Using Yahoo info.

There are several other forms of internet censorship in China. Of course we know the internet is almost nil in Cuba, and nonexistent in N. Korea. China, though, is one of the few major powers with such limits on international free communication.
Russia may not be far behind. It would not surprise me to see Russia expand some of the same kind of censorship, especially as they now align themselves more, both militarily and economically, with China.
Are America's eyes open? Or are we still strutting around telling ourselves the Cold War ended?

The cold war didn't end, it just shifted around a bit. The same issues and conflicts are there.

Dictatorships and police states are just that, regardless of what political label they prefer.
Shall we tell the East Germans, Poles, Czechs, Lithuanianians, Rumanians, Albanians, Latvians, Bulgarians and Ukranians that the Cold War isn't over and that the Soviet empire didn't fall?
Maybe China does still call itself "communist" but it is building up its infrastructure with capitalism and Yankee dollars. Look at the label to see where 99% of the consumer junk you buy these days is made.

Time to return to a state of mutually assured destruction?

I think we have WAY MORE nukes than China or Russia. #I am more concerned about losing our edge in science and innovation. #That is where the real war is and since our president believes the book of Genisus is a history lesson, I have to wonder where we are headed.

Good point, but in our own tests we can't even shoot down our own missles! Yes we need more science and innovation but corporate intrests call the shots and they have given up on US students since we tend to mollycoddle instead of teach. Yes I'm painting with a broad brush but it's just to make a point.

The conflict in the middle east is a distraction of what is really happening in Asia/China......... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Communism is a form of economic system. Capitalism is another. Dictatorship is a form of government and so is democracy (which we like to say we enjoy.)
Capitalism as an economic system can work after a fashion as it does in China and in Vietnam. However, those governments are still totalitarian dictatorships. As long as the capitalists play be "the rules," the dictatorship allows it to continue.
Marx suspected and Lenin proved that communism as an economic system cannot work under a democracy. The free electorate will vote communism out every time. They are loathe to share their wealth with everyone else if they don't have to.
Canada and the United Kingdom are examples of democratic governments with some socialism mixed into the economy. In Canada at least it's the medical care system that is socialised. And from everything I've read, the Canadian medical system is rife with excessive costs and inefficiency. Canadians who want more than just basic medical care have to wait and wait or pay out of their own pockets. The democratic government is powerless to stop the electorate from getting "around" the system. An example of communism/socialism not working under a democracy.
Communism doesn't really work well under dictatorships either, but the totalitarian state can keep word of that from getting out too clearly.

It's not just in Canada and UK...
http://www.local6.com/news/4952902/detail.html
And "communist" China essentially has no national medical insurance system period, privately or government run. If you get sick there and cannot afford to pay up front, (and most people can't), you are SOL. Population control?
Lots of Russians still think the US is the "Evil Empire;" check out pravda.ru . Of course, Lyndon Larouche still thinks the UK is.

The "Cold War" described by Winston Churchill is no more, it passed, just like the 100 Years War. The way to dominate the world is by being the most important manufacturer and supplier of goods. For many years it was the Dutch East India Company and they were followed by Britain, once the largest trader of goods and services in the world.
The government of the Peoples Republic of China know that the world has no intention of following the path of Communism, but what they do know is that they have the ability to supply the world with everything that the people of the world want to buy. And they are doing it !
Why do you think the cost of buying metals is so high ?
Why do you think there is an overwhelming demand for oil and gas, and why do you think the price of these commodities has been rising the last few years ?
China will be the new power of the 21st century.
