I hear the N4HLF beacon 5/6, but that's all.
Freeband is crowded though, as well as channel 19 http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Because my radio was set to USB, not CW while I was tuning across the band, so I gave a phone report.
Ok, should have said 556... happy now? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

On many occasions I have tuned across 10 meters and heard nothing but static, then called CQ for a short while and ended up having a fine QSO, sometimes even a fine DX QSO!
I figure it never hurts to try, and have been rewarded for that effort fairly often.
Ditto for 12 and 15.

I've more than once checked out 20m late night/early morning (local) and have found the band dead from end to end but, after persistently tuning across the band anyway, stumbled upon Asian and South Pacific stations who heard me FB. #Nobody domestic or even close, but then clear as a bell from the other side of the world! #It shows to go ya'... never give up.

I have not been on the radio much the past couple of days. Tonight I will be gearing up for the Asia DX contest, and after that I will spend some time helping with relays if I can on the various HF H&W nets. There is a contest each week this month, and though I don't know how promising the bands are going to be I hope to make plenty of contacts.

That's just what gets me... as a cber and a ham i do not understand why ten meters is so empty when cb and freband is stuffed... and people complain of cbers coming on ten meters (i thing thats dumb... dont care if they freeband in between though) maybe instead of complaining about the idiot on 10m who knows not what he does we could actually maybe press our mike keys and call CQ DX... freebanders do...hmm

It's open again today, like everyday.
Freeband is crowded, ch 19 as well, 10m is empty.
BTW, I hear the 29660KHz, W5DFW repeater full quieting. Just in case somebody would tell me something about razor sharp MUF http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Both 10 and 6 meters are subject to random openings (sporadic E) in the summertime, and other times as well. That's where having an FM rig on 29.6 comes in handy.
Listening to activity on CB band is allso a good indicator of band openings.
Years ago I was trying to do a three way conversation on 20 meters with two close friends, and had mixed results -- I could only do a one-on-one QSO with either one, and never could do a successful three way.
I suggested to one that we might try 10 FM as I had just crystalled up my GE Progress Line. At II PM Pacific time, we connected with what I'd call armchair reception -- full quieting signal on both ends. We had fun for a couple more hours, and had a third ham in the QSO for the better part of it.
And some hams think 10 meters is a daytime band. BALDERDASH!!!!

With no propagation and proper antennas, 10m is better than any other HF band.
I have been a ham since more than 10 years and a freebander CBer for more than 20. I still don't understand why it's not used more than that.

Driving 120Km/h on the highway is illegal too.
