There are two problems that we have when it comes to paying high prices at the pump.
1. China. China is consuming 30% of the worlds oil. So that means at lot less oil for the rest of us.
2.As mentioned in the article, refinery capacity. President Bush talked to the Saudi Minister of Information about increasing the oil production. This guy has an education from Harvard (yep, up there in Taxachussetts). He says that Saudi Arabia could go to max production and it still would not relieve the pain at the pump. We don't have the refinery capacity to handle the extra oil and he is correct. We haven't built a new refinery in over 30 years.
So we got choices to make. We will have curtail driving to just those necessary trips, and ease up on the throttle when we do go somewhere. Keeping the vehicle tuned will help out a bunch, and automakers will have to stop producing those gas hog SUVs. This isn't an immediate solution, but we can do this for ourselves and will have some payoffs in the long run.
This will be a good time stay at home and get that radio fired up, build those projects we have been putting off, and maybe get that upgrade.

That's right. The oil companies have intentionally acted in a way that will cause an artificial shortage. They have been making record profits and say they have no idea what to do with all that extra money.
If there were free market forces going on rather than collusion or monopolies, smaller companies would be putting up new refineries.
Antitrust regulations need to be enforced.

It's all a bunch of hoohaa and balony. Oil and drug companies call the shots in Washington.
Such and inquiry is like having a boxing match between two guys with the same promoter.
All for show, little real result.

OH !! If it could be so simple to correct. First of all yes China is taking 30% of the production and India is also taking their share now.
But the main problem still is with the refineries. The Federal Envoirmentalists the "ECOLOGIST'S" have restricted it to the point no one will invest the large sums of money to build a refinery. It is no longer feasable to invest in building a refinery.
You want oil and gas, speak to the crowd on the other side of the aisle. The treehuggers have tied it up to a point it is a bad investment by business to try to build one what will meet all the restrictions, that's why NOTHING has been done for over 30 years.
As to the Senate holding investigations ,I'm all for that, the time they spend in comittee,is time they are not wasting money on PORK BARRELL projects.

POST EDIT:
ED,stop selling those SUV's??
The unions have run the cost of building an automobile that the only profit GM was making was on the high priced SUV sales. The money from the auto sales was paying the extrodinary good medical benefits the Union workers get.The drop in SUV sales forced GM to close 3 plants and relocate them in CHINA.The Unions would not back down on their benefit package. The Unions are about to ruin one more US manufacture to their credit. You want them to stop selling SUV's ?? GM will be going down the tubes, and as GM goes so goes the nation!!

Sorry Orv but, this will spark a round of bills to be passed which will have all the pork they want attached to them and the original problem will not be dealt with. The pork initiatives will go full tilt boogie, you betc’ha but there will be no real progress. SSDD.
This is a typical witchhunt. It happens to Oil companies when their product is in demand and getting burned up, but not to realtors.
It will get worse, as no matter what the Oil companies or anyone else does, the World Oil production will peak in about 3 years. It is economics and science.
High oil prices help me and my rich buddies Bush and Cheney, so here is a simple 3-step program you can follow to speed the prices skyward:
1: Buy imported goods from China, all you can, they have gone from importing no oil to being the second largest consumer. (You are..good)
2: Bring in tens of millions of immigrants, preferably fertile ones that will have lots of kids. Make sure that they can all buy a car. Their kids will become teenagers, so make sure that all of the teenagers can buy a car. This insures that oil demand rises despite better vehicular fuel economy nationally. (Already doing this? Good.)
3: Have Clinton veto ANWR in the mid-90s so that when the megatons of new oil would start hitting the market in 2005, it doesn't happen. He did? Great.
There you have it, a three step plan to raise the price of a fillup. Now, ignore the real reasons and conduct a meaningless and pathetic witch hunt on Oil companies. That insures that the real problems will not be addressed. You are? Perfect.

Dudes, Oil Users Of Today Who Are Loved By The Arabs, listen up.
First of all the greedy no good sob's who call themselves Ceo's are interested in one thing and one thing only. And it's not your wife. They are interested in gett as much of your hard earned $$$$$ as they can. The more they make, the more they stuff into the wallets and the bigger the stock dividens they the Ceo's and the greedy no good congress men who have stocks in the oil industry get. I sure Bush has stocks in the oil industry, why do you think he has allowed gas prices to get so high, think about it.
The auo makers could if they wanted to make a car that would run off of propane or hydrogen or booze or even Dung.
Would you buy a DUNG-MOBILE?
Look at the bucks you would save on gas.
All you would need is a cow or a Dung-N-Fill Station to re-fuel at.
Would you have a problem with having a Dun Refinery near your subdivision if it meant lower fuel costs?
I filled up today and it cost me $40.00 to fill my car. This is highway robbery.
Higher fuel costs mean higher funeral costs, because, it cost more to go pick up the departed and bring them back to the funeral home for burial prep. It also drives up the cost of transporting the departed to the grave yard for burial, not to mention the cost of delivery of goods from the casket company. What I'm saying is that all business costs everywhere are being effected.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight.
The Senate will find the same things they found last time: Oil Companies are not gouging prices, no "collusion" no wrong doing. In other words, NOTHING.
Orv's right about the treehuggers. They are the real culprits in this thing. They placed so many REGULATIONS when it comes to building a refinery that it's no longer profitable to build one.
So my truck stays parked in the driveway. I set here either posting here or working a few radio projects. More free time means more air time.
Alternative fuels would be the way to go. No, not ethanol, maybe hydrogen, *IF* we can find a safe and CHEAP way to use the stuff.

cheep oil was going to keep flowing
did americans need big suv's 50 years ago
how many americans rode the bus to work
60 years ago, owned one car per family
hand writing was on the wall
did we do anything about
hell no
we burn twice as much oil as 30 years ago
blame tree huggers
simplistic foolish blame game
for supply and demand
if all the oil fields were on line
and we had twice the refinery capacity
price will still rise
we are using more oil than ever
China and India using more oil
lots of cars in China
were no private cars in China
why do we half to burn
all the cheep oil right now
oil thats in the ground
will be worth much much more
50, 75, 100 years
than it is worth today
and it will not be used for burning
go ahead drive ur big v8
all by ur self to work
as much as i dislike George W.
he has nothing to do with the price of oil
has every thing to do with Adam Smith

If you think you have it bad at the pump, the airlines are paying more than $75 for a barrel of jet fuel.
Probably the best way to deal with high gas prices is to purchase a 500-gallon gravity-fed fuel tank and buy your gasoline in bulk. Gas is cheaper if you buy it wholesale.

Can't do that in California-the permits alone for such a tank will kill you. Much cheaper to just hit the pump around here.
Course, I think we're something like 35 cents above the national average on average, anyway.

What a load of Bull to think that our politicians would honestly investigate the gas prices that are financing their campains,Bush and Chaney are getting ready to retire, they need all the stock dividends and oil futures profits they can steal from the poor working slob they can get.Campains was misspelled on purpose, they are a pain in the poofterswath to the working poor who can't afford the liquid gold anymore,The U.S. subsidized oil searches and drilling for the rest of the world and now we're getting screwd because of Bushes lousy politics and Greed .This is my opinion and I support this message.

price of gas will only drop
when people stop using
oil for cheep energy
don't like the price of gas
sorry gang
only going to get higher
lots and LOTS HIGHER
no matter how many
National Parks they drill for oil in
not long from now
you will think back
and a remember
