This was originally posted here about 6 months ago.

"My Name is Steve Vaught, (born Stephen James Liller in Youngstown, Ohio). I am a 39 year old, happily married father of two great kids and I have a pretty good life here in Southern California. You would think that I would be happy because of these things, but I am not. I am not happy because I am fat and being fat makes every day unhappy."

I got curious and checked out the website. He deserves a hand. He's still at it and now in New Mexico...

What an interesting endeavor. Thanks for sharing that John.

Interesting story. There was a guy years ago who did that to join the Marines because he was to heavy to enlist.

I have to wonder about his diet. He's just going to get fat again unless he eats healthier.

An I don't know if he's made the best choice to be away from his family and consider his safety.

Didn't Forrest Gump do that a few years ago?

Seriously, I envy the guy although Rte 66 isn't my idea of hiking.

I think I'd much rather walk the AT (Appalachian Trail) in it's entirety instead of the highway system, although some parts of the AT are like freeways on weekends.

Anyway, good luck Steve - don't forget to eat lunch and dinner at Subway!

Good Luck Steve. You set an example to those of us who also have struggles with our physical appearance. Have a safe journey. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I wonder what kind of job lets a guy take a year and a half off (by my calculations, he'll finish his walk on or about 8/10/2006).

I would have my ft-817 in my back pack and running on solar cells. If that got too heavy I would switch to my TH-F6a.

I noticed that this guy is walking through the furnace areas that people laughingly think are livable, so I had to wonder about his logic.

He doesn't look all that fat in the picture but I admire his resolve.

This guy has my admiration. #Doing anything like that takes a tremendous amount of willpower (as well as won't power)!
