So hard to read. I can understand this being a great word puzzle, but reading CW is for the birds. O like birds, I ramble.

I agree. I love to copy code but for all serious hams who know code by sound, this form of written representation is for the birds.
If anyone is serious about others reading it take the extra time to put it in didah format. That way it is much more natural to the brain.

I wrote a little copy/paste "decoder ring" program for this stuff (and agree that it's too hard to read).
Input is:
-. . .-- ... / .. - . -- ---... / - .... . / ..-. -.-. -.-. / .... .- ... / .--. .-. --- .--. --- ... . ... / -.. .-. --- .--. .--. .. -. --. / - .... . / -- --- .-. ... . / -.-. --- -.. . / . .-.. . -- . -. - / .- ... / .- / .-. . --.- ..- .. .-. -- . -. - / - --- / --- -... - .- .. -. / .- -. / .- -- .- - . ..- .-. / .-. .- -.. .. --- / .-.. .. -.-. . -. ... . / --- ..-. / .- -. -.-- / -.-. .-.. .- ... ... .-.-.- /
... .... .- -- . / --- -. / - .... . / ..-. -.-. -.-. .-.-.- /
Output from the program is:
NEWS ITEMx THE FCC HAS PROPOSES DROPPING THE MORSE CODE ELEMENT AS A REQUIRMENT TO OBTAIN AN AMATEUR RADIO LICENSE OF ANY CLASS.
SHAME ON THE FCC.
The lower-case 'x' means the character isn't in the decoder tables. Dah-dah-dah-di-di-dit -- don't know what that is!
Has proposes? Maybe there's hope yet. The Sun-Times could use a Morse proofreader! Agree on the shame part, though.
Blah.

"Dah dah dah di di dit" is the colon.

Let's forgibve the grammatical error. It's cool that such a posting got approval at all. BRAVO to the Chicago Sun Times!
I want to write a Firefox plug-in that will allow me to highlight that dot-dash stuff and play it back as sound. It would be immensely easier to copy. Unfortunately, I don't know how, so maybe if I mention it enough, someone else will write it.

Bet you had to look it up, though! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I need to add all the "obscure" ones to the program...
