I spent $200 and a little time building my 2-meter modulated-FM practice station to help Hams learn Morse code. It was my project for the week. In fact, I was really close to getting it on the air -- and then the new NPRM came through.

I now feel like it would look sad and embarrassing to be associated this dead, antiquated mode and have my stupid practice station on the air, so I have ceased working with it.

What do you think?

Can it be converted to a 2 meter CW beacon?

Actually, I think I might finish it. Pretty soon, those learning code will be the ones who WANT to learn code. That could be a lot more fun to teach.

That is an good take, Rob. If just one person used it, I think I would feel ok about it. Actually, it will run under my daughter's license, so she will be the control Op. I leave for the oil field in the morning, but I will try to finish it next week when I get back from work.

Hook the 2 meter to a GPS and TNC and use it for APRS.

I'd finish it. Just because people don't have to learn morse doesn't mean nobody will.

It seems silly, but I guess I'll do it with my daughter as the control op. She doesn't think code is silly....yet.

I don't think CW will ever go away. There will always be people interested in it..
