We use FRS 8 to keep up with the kids when they go out in the yard or over to the neighbors house and such. Anyway, while out working on the SWL antenna I heard some other FRS stations giving locations of roads across town, about 8 miles away. being me I whipped out the FRS radio and tried to contact the stations and after calling a few times I was met with success. I confirmed the locations as being just outside the city limits and jumped on 70cm to see if it was effected and sure enough I was able to hit several repeaters from the car in the drive way that I cant even hit most of the time while in the same city they are. Now, the downside to all this is that except for the occasional repeater ID the 70cm band is DEAD here. So, since I am still able to hear these FRS stations and assume there is a small band opening on 70cm is there anyone in the NE Tennessee who would like to try FM simplex on 446.0?

Now if you were in NW TN i would say come on, but i can only hope for people. I'm messing on 220 right now and finally made my first contact. I'm having fun and getting aggravated.

Just alittle bit, I'm in EM57 (Western KY) and I was making some nice contacts.
I contacted a mobile station and he wsa near Huntsville Alabama on 2m simplex.
A base station in Sheboigon Wisconsin on 2m simplex.
And a base station in Northern Illinois on 220 simplex.
So in my opinoin we had a nice little opening.

I can tell by the TV that it is good up here. It goes out in the morning and further stations replace it, and about 10 or 11 at night that same happens.
