towers

I hope your readers do not take this the wrong way but
I am a UK based researcher (working with extremely
limited SRB funding) looking at paranormal phenomena
associated with microwave radiation leaking from radio
towers and micowave (mobile phone) installations.
I am interested in reports of paranormal activity - in
the vicinity of microwave installations.
My hypothesis is that most individuals reporting such
incidents are deluded. However, the effects of micro
wave radiation on the neurological system remain
relatively unkown and these installations do seem
somehow to affect certain individuals enabling them to
experience what others cannot.
We do not yet fully understand the processes and need
more information on direct linkages between reported
events and the presence of these installations.
In short I would be interested to know if any of your
members have had any sort of strange or unusual
experiences when undertaking your hobby.
This is a serious request and I would be grateful if
any of your members do get in contact with
information.
All reports will be treated in the strictest
confidence.
Thank you
Creed Wall

Well, it's not near the tower, but related to it... I see people walking around with cell-phones, asking the other party if they can hear them every few steps. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Perhaps the general rudeness of people today can be attributed to holding a transmitter inches away from their skull, nu?
But seriously, I do know one person who actually can sense RF in the 800-1000mhz bands; it makes her queasy.

All hams are supposed to know that microwave RF can cook your brain and eyeballs. Plus the radio signal can interfere with electrical impulses. And the heating increases electrical activity in the brain. The brain being a pattern recognition organ tries to apply something it can relate to, overlaying the signals it doesn't comprehend.:0
That said, I do have an open mind, but like they say in Missouri, "Show me!" http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

OK, let's issue a general call for volunteers to stick their heads into a live feed horn and tell us what they see. [Kid's Don't try this at home... these volunteers are (un)trained idiots. otherwise they wouldn't do it!]
There was an old computer game "Zack McCracken" about aliens, Cydonia Mensae, Atlantis, Elvis and the phone company using 60hz noise to dull people's minds. Perhaps the theory is correct... #
Don't forget your metal hat.... got to keep the stray RF out of your head.
Personally I think that EM at somewhere around 650-700nm causes people's brains to freeze; otherwise they wouldn't run so many traffic signals.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif My current internet dialup connection speed is 54,666 bps..........54,666 minus 54,000 equals 666................Coincidence?...........I think not! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

well this might not be entirely microwave but about 3 years ago at a special event station celebration a good friend of mine who is a tower climber found a carcass of what appeared to be a catfish! or some other type of fish wrapped around a cushcraft vertical up about 125'...
Flying fish? #or some really big bird with a fetish for hanging up its prey! #U decide!!!

Re: The catfish at 125ft.
I've always maintained that NØAH used the repeater on Mt Ararat, but nobody believes me. Probably they don't believe me because of the microwave tower in my yard, but still . . . would this face lie?

Looking over the posted responses so far, I don't think this is a popular issue among hams. That's unfortunate.
I've been a ham for 40 years, and I'd *like* to believe there's nothing in all of this. But I have done enough journalistic reporting on the subject to feel uneasy about all the RF around, especially in the microwave area.
Personally, I can sense very well when I have been using a cell phone, with a "corridor of sensation" at the back of my head, following the vertical axis of the antenna. I know of other people who have experienced the same thing. I have also noticed a definite decrease in the sensitivity and audio response of my right [phoning] ear, as well as tinitis, which I never had before. According to the doctor, this is due to cell phone use. The World Health Organization, BTW, recommends using "hands-off" devices when using cell phones, or at least phone models that feature antennas that are pitched away from the head.
As for ham radio: I don't use the HF linear when I know my daughters or grandson are upstairs, only a few meters below the beam. There's enough preliminary evidence out there to give me an uneasy feeling, and to at least be aware of what I'm doing with RF.
For those who don't realize it, the RF environmental issue is being taken VERY seriously here in Europe, and it's only a question of time until it impacts Stateside too. The WHO isn't laughing, and is in the middle of a major worldwide study. Even cell phone-maker Ericsson admits that not enough research has been done.
Laughing this off is a premature reaction. It reminds me too much of the tobacco debate back in the 60's. Need I continue?

No, you need not continue as you missed the entire supernatural slant of the origonal post.
No one is saying RF ain't dangeruos. And if your cell phone has you in such pain or seeing ghoasts, I suggest you get a pocket full of quarters! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Craig,
I did catch the supernatural thing, but had nothing to report on that score. Interesting though.
I guess I just carried away on the environmental and health theme!
Yes, I *do* avoid using the cell phones as much as possible.
Maybe I'm just too darm serious!!

For those of you that are interested in the paranormal and ufo's, etc.
Found this link to be useful, and it is partially full of fact, and some fiction.
I'll let you make the decision on which is which.

I can atest to a classified document I was privy to circa 1964, which was produced by the US gov. special warfare group, that dealt with testing animals and RF exposure at various frequencies and power levels. The book was about 1 1/2 inches thick and I can't remember it all at this time. But the conclusion was that the test program should be terminated due to the inability to repeatedly acquire the same results.
Very interesting reading for the sci-fi persons.

The book WA6CAW is refering to was required reading when I went through Directed Energy Warfare (DEW) training. You will not find much with a search for DEW but if you were to attempt to do some "study" of the Russian/Afgan war you might stumble on some disturbing revelations about what we can do with micro waves and choherent light.. ( note: if the Russions could do it in 1970 then _) Of course you always knew the "good Guys" were better funded and equiped...didn't you?
Much of Tom Clancy's books are based loosly on reality
Lots of the X-files are based on enough reality to make
the story line convincing, it is up to you to try and figure
what is Truth vs Fiction... but the truth remains some of it
is the TRUTH and SOME of it is fiction... neat huh?

Truth is always stranger than fiction... that's way people have to tell tales to get their point across. The truth is often incredulous.
