I know, I know this is an AMATEUR radio forum, but with all the C B posts scattered through the various threads...one HAS to wonder ------ are there any past or present clubs that actively had cb operators & amateur radio operators in the membership.

Was there a mutual trust, or hidden jealousy ?

Does it still exist ...and for how many years ?

Tell the rest of us about it, we want to know.

Interesting question. Joint clubs I have never heard of.
Clubs with Hams that also worked 11 meters after it became a CB band yes.

As a matter of fact I studied in 1977 very hard for my General class ticket in Germany. A friend bought me a CB and I got caught up with it. I was making 300.00 or more a month building power supplies for CBers both American and Nationals.

In Oct 1979 (deer season) I was rag chewing on 11 meters SSB here at Ft Lewis, WA state around ten pm one friday night with four other guys.. turned out I was the only non-ham.. One was a tech with (no-code) and could not do HF and the other three were Gen, Advanced, and Extra.

The four of them set every friday night aside with leagle SSB CBs to look for future hams..

Well W7VIC (may he RIP) invited me over to his house at 11pm to show me how he could talk to a deer hunter in my home town on a 19" whip with 1 watt.. (I had no idea of 2 meter repeaters) hihi #

I was hooked and made a appointment with the FCC in Seattle and two weeks later passed the test.

But joint clubs.. nope.. too many ego's on both sides.

There were no NCTs in '79. The Technician license at that time was a 5WPM General. The only difference was the 13WPM test. All licenses at that time had HF access, but Novices and Techs could not use voice below 30MHz.

I don't know of any CB clubs around here. Heck, I hardly know anyone with CB. Mostly it's just truckers on the Interstate now a days.
I've seen a couple of CB clubs discussed on the internet but few if any mentioned Ham radio.
Even the REACT Team I belong to is 100% hams and is a ARRL affiliated club.

Woa, CB/Ham club?

Who buys the beer? That could get pretty expensive.

The last mention of REACT I have seen was a sign on the Richmond, Ca city limit signs on highway 80 that such a club existed.

I haven't been up that way in a few years so I don't know if they are still there. #I think all the signs said was "REACT-RICHMOND, use CH 9 for EMERGENCIES" or something similar. #

I'm guessing they are probably not ham affiliated, but I have no idea. This was probably over 5 years ago and I was surprised to see it right below the city limit sign.

Other than that, I didn't even know REACT still existed anywhere.

It would be interesting. Do the "Hams" help the CBers to become licensed, or do the CBers get the hams on 11 meters AM. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

That dream hasn't come true just yet. If it does, it will be a NIGHTMARE!!!!
