View Full Version : Which ARRL directors voted against the proposal?

The ARRL Board of Directors voted 12-3 in favor of adopting the modified regulation by bandwidth proposal.

I'm rather surprised to see that 3 directors voted against the proposal. Does anyone know who those three are and why they voted against the proposal?

Is there any way we can shut that organization down? Perhaps QRZ can take over. QRZ.COM is way ahead of the ARRL on important issues. The ARRL became irrelevant when they helped do away with the Novice Class license. QRZ is by far a much more forward thinking organization.

Why don't you send off an e-mail to your Director and/or Vice-Director and ask them?

True, but then would you pay a fee to QRZ so they can set up in Washington next door to the FCC?

Good point. I failed to mention that I'm not an ARRL member. I really am not interested in ARRL bashing or some long drawn out discussion about membership decisions.

I'm just curious who dissented and why.

I did. It's because they sit by and watch the hobby die. They are all a bunch of old white guys living in the past.

SHUT THE WHOLE THING DOWN.

if you are not a member, then why do you expect them to represent you?

Since I am not a member of the ARRL (gave up on them in the late 1970s) I do not criticize what their officials do.

However, once they make a proposal to the FCC then that is another matter. Any proposal to the FCC is a matter of public record and therefore is open to any, and all, comments be they pro, con, or neutral.

As for my "take" on the bandwidth proposal: If it "ain't" broke, then why try to "fix" it!

I'd like to know which ARRL directors voted against the proposal, too.

They are the only ones with any sense, and very probably the only ones who are not either spineless, clueless or just plain crooked.

They send proposals to the FCC as an organization working for Amateur Radio. If you disagree with the proposals being sent, take your time to write up a proposal and send to them. Or re-join the ARRL and express your concerns about the proposal.

I asked my director how he voted and he said he voted against it. He stated he has no problems with the bandwidth part, but stated the way this proposal is written gave him trouble.

Jim, I guess that would be Coy Day, N5OK? I ran into ham Ham-Com, but did not get a chance to speak with him. I spoke with Jim Haynie, but it was over BPL, not the bandwith proposal.

ALL members have a right to know who and how the ARRL BoD votes on every issue. We shouldn't have to go begging for it either. The results need to be published in our "journal".

How do you decide whether your getting good representation if you don't know how your representatives vote? This is democracy 101 stuff folks.

Instead of complaining, go read them for yourself. The minutes have been posted on the website for some time.

Now that was a rapid change in policy.
I don't recall them EVER using a roll call vote for anything.
Alas, I'm going to have to educate my director as to the error of his ways. What's the best way for me to tell him to pull his head out of his ***?

Atlantic Division Director Bernie Fuller will be at a hamfest this weekend, I should probably chase him down and ask, if he decides not to return the phone call I made to him just now.

Pete/CWA will recall it was Fuller who refused to discuss with a paid member his support or disagreement with his group's threatened bandwidth petition.

Not holding my breath this time either.

I looked around but never did see the roll-call showing who voted what.

Could one of you guys give us a link to it for Internet-challenged types like myself?

Thanks!

I read the minutes of the latest board meeting and didn't see that, either.

I did see who proposed and seconded motions of change and that those were defeated, but that's about all I could find....
