Just got done installing the G5RV yesterday afternoon and what should happen? Direct lightning strike.
Guess I'm not meant to have one of these babies. No HF for me for awhile.

So what did it do to the antenna and radio?

Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully the radio is ok.

Melted my antenna ends and MKIIG was fine, I have 4 sets of inline fuses plus a high powered surge protector attached to the radio.
So that's good news, at least the MKII survived. And in other good news, just got a 95 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 today with only 96,000 miles on it. Not bad!
So I guess not everything went wrong, just most everything.

Perhaps you ought to write the manufacturer and suggest they market the antenna as a lightning rod also.
How long did you have it up? (edit: Nevermind, I see that now)
Perhaps you should try a lottery ticket-The odds for that occuring are probably about as high as the odds of winning.

Better the antenna getting hit than you.
Though I can't say the same. I wish my antenna got hit instead of me. I took a small jolt yesterday in my garage from a passing t-storm. I was watching the storm roll through the area and a nearby strike got me in the arm via induced voltage into a metal rail I was leaning against. It went up my arm down my side to my right foot. I didn't knock me to the ground but it sure as heck woke me up.
