currently, the sun spot number reported by NOAA is -1 (minus 1) and 12 for yesterday.

that sounds good!

Never thought we could go so low.... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well, it appears we have 1 more anti sunspot than we do regular sunspots. j/k #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It seems that solar minimum is near.

It's an "Insie" instead of an "outsie"

A figure like (say) <s>8 plus or minus 7</s> 7 plus or minus 8, allows for a range of -1 to 15. And some folks (I stole this phrase) would measure jello with a micrometer.

I think you mean 7 +/- 8

PS, I like the concept of measuring jello with a micrometer!

Ayup. Fixed it. Sheesh. Sorry officer, i was only going -1!

I've heard it said that engineering demands three digit precision for calculations based on measurements marked on pavement with chalk by people who can't read. And then we argue about the permissible uncertainty.

Pi equals three
To one dB;
And debts all disappear.
The one constant,
It is quite clear
Is called uncertainty!

Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk and cut it with an axe.

Per the ARRL Propagation forecast, it is merely a placeholder when there is NO data. It is also explained here:
