Chicago is great place for a beer and a dog.
Screw 'em.
This round is on me.

Sounds like Mayor Daley is pro drunk driving.
The whole idea of a corner bar is that you can get there by foot and chum around with the other guys from the neighborhood.

Most of the places are neighborhood taverns. Walk to and crawl home. Daley wants to close them all so you are forced to drive to the trendy downtown clubs, pay to park, and get a DUI on the way home. More money for the city.
Just kidding. There are a lot of rowdy bars that should be closed.
I grew up in Chicago, and my neighborhood was dry. Western Ave was one of the dividing lines. East side of Western...no bars. West side of Western...Party Party.
The Cops were cool. If you didn't crash or cause an injury, they would just send you home, if you got pulled over and were not overly wasted.
Those days are gone however.
I don't go drinkin' in the hood any more, unless I am a passenger.
And I make sure that I do not stop at K9KRO's place on the way home. Hi Denny. ha ha

If Mayor Daley wants to make Chicago a "family friendly" city, why doesn't he do something about the crime rate? I was living in a north Chicago suburb when he assummed his new job back '89. It was bad then especially on the south side. I remember Cabrenie<sp?> Greens with the drugs and violence that went on in that place. Navy Recruiters wouldn't go into that place if they had a perspective recruit that lived there because it was TOO DANGEROUS. I haven't been back since that time but I would almost bet not much has changed as far as the crime rate is concerned. They still have the gangs, the shootings, and the robberies.
Shutting down a rowdy tavern in Chicago to make it more "family friendly" would be like trying to put a volcano with a bucket of water.
