View Full Version : Apolize to CB'ers

I would like to take this opportunity to APOLIZE to all the CB'ers I have ever offended:

I, W3SY, do sincerely, wholeheartedly, humbly, contritely, and deeply apolize to users of the Class D Citizens Radio Service who may have been offended by my past posts on the subject of your operating techniques. At no time did I EVER mean to suggest that CB'ers are pea brained, incompetent, inconsiderate, technically-clueless ding-a-lings who have no more business operating radio equipment than the average resident of the Monkey House at the City Zoo. Nor did I ever intend to imply that CB'ers seem to delight in violating every communications law ever written, assuming they could understand these laws in the first place. I further apolize for EVER giving the impression that I thought of CB'ers as mildly retarded, two-digit IQ, inbred redneck hillbillies whose parents were never married.

I sincerely apolize if this impression has ever come across.

Whew, I feel so much better.

Good day.

I also sincerely apolize from the heart of my bottom for those times I tried to use a CB to get driving directions, or get someone to make a phone call for a stranded motorist. There is no doubt that such communications interfered with numerous radio checks, complaints about "dang #%^%#& four wheelers," leenyer tune-ups, skip shooting, offers of fisticuffs between rival "channel masters," and general "well by golly mercy sakes doggone fer shurr cotton pickin' duck plucka" CB patter on the 27 MHz band.

I also apolize for the times I attempted to use plain English, rather than Heehawspeak, when attempting communicate via CB. I now realize that it's an insult to CB'ers to speak that way, and I revealed myself to be a Fancy Pants College Puke with all my Nine Dollar multi-syllable words. I deserved not to be answered, in spite of the level of urgency of the attempted communication.

I do apolize!

I too have often been less than flattering in my description of our fellow "Radio Bretheren", the Class "D" Radio operators of the United States.
With arms entwined, and Hearts as ONE, we must venture forth as commrades who share the airwaves...."One for ALL..and ALL for ONE" !!

Yes, I have had a change of heart, THANK you for paving the way to cooperative co-habitation of the airwaves.

I too have been unkind in thought and word toward those born of forkless family trees, who neither know nor care how they sound on "them thar 40 channels," nor the channels they call "extree." My blood is incurably rancorous toward them, and I'm certain shall remain so, for I am hopeless to help myself.

You mean since it's quitting time, you can get off play, and go work?

I'm having a hard time with this "Apoliza." Looks like something I should see on a Polish patrol car. Or along the border to the Eastern Sector.

Is this Ebonics? Or Cr*ponics? Or is this like cousin to cousin resuscitation. Ressustiton? Rsttisolizauton? Do I have to move to Arkansas or Poland to understand? I'm having enough time learning our national language Spanish, and I don't want to have to learn Polack, too. And I most especially don't want to have to learn Arkansasifish.

In the spirit of things, though, I, too, shall "apolizea" to the CBer. I may have to do it verbally, as I'm fairly certain he can't read here. Problem is, he may not can understand English (Spanish?) unless it is sprinkled liberally (there's that word - I've been wondering where it was) with ten-foars, and super slabs and such. So verbalizing it without CB-speak may be a waste of time.

With "apoliczeps."

See? That's MY own word. I created it. It is mine to use as I please. It doesn't matter if no one else can read it, say it, understand it. I have joined the new "I'll do it my way" society. Spelling is a no-no. Don't need no stinkin consistency. If you don't know what I'm saying, that's tuff dog tails.

Given its orginal source, I hope the term becomes the default standard verb for a mock apology. Perhaps in the tradition of "Dutch uncle," "Dutch treat," "French crown," and other such delightful idioms, we can refer to it as a "Welsh apology."

An historic example: "We are so deeply sorry that our aviators were so sleep deprived, they thought your embassy was Khadafi's palace."

Lest you think that original I should apolize to Foxworthy--"If your family tree doesn't fork, you might be..."

As a penance for my plagiaristic indulgence, I shall henceforth refer to such a geno-dendrological condition in a more sensitive manner, using more academically politically correct verbiage. I shall henceforth refer to those closed loop reproductive phenomena as "unbifurcated trunkage." http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Four ten, roger right on, no doubt about it big brother man; that's what I've dubbed 'C-bonics' over the years hoping the term would catch on, maybe it has, I don't know.
As far as apologizing goes, I apologize for hams that have their butt-cracks hanging out with fifty HT's at hamfest, and that feel the pointless need to say fine business or very good after EVERY freakin' transmission, or that pretend like they're cops or other various actually trained officials at every fender-bender in order to feel important. I find that stereotype much more em-bare-ass-ing and much more in the majority than I do CBer's that use 'C-bonics' or 70's BJ and the Bear trucker talk, I've still never heard that used by a majority. But hey, think what you want, whatever gets ya through the night...

Hi guys,

Beginning with uncle Sy, you guys crack me up! Too bad I can't stick a particular avatar on only this one post, the one I started out with is about what comes out of a CB if you remember it. Speaking of avatars:

"I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK WHOEVER SUPPLIED THE AVATAR I HAVE CHOSEN.I REALLY WANTED TO FIND ONE OF A RAT SITTING IN AN ELECTRIC CHAIR LAUGHING BUT I DID NOT SEE IT."

Ugh, let my eyes refocus for a moment...
Ah, that's better. That wasn't mine although I have several in the file and add one each time I change mine. If you want I can make one, I have a photo of the real thing and it's a rat of another sort in the chair. (Use it on QRZ at your own risk, other moderators aren't so picky.) I not only swiped them from all over the net but make my own, mostly reduced photographs of oddball subjects. If you have something in mind or just want a big load of crap dumped on your computer send an e-mail request. On the other hand Scott has a pile of them for download on www.w2sjw.com for those of you with bizarre tastes.

I thank the CB community because it made me desire to be a ham. I was coming home from the store one day with the trunk full of groceries. I tried to call my husband on channel 19 to tell him I needed help carrying the groceries in, when a 'friendly' CBer told me to get off the channel because it was a business band. I have back problems, I had had a bad day, I was hurting, and impatient. I reached under the car seat since I was "running barefoot" and put on the "footwarmer" because I knew power would allow me to complete my conversation. I then told the CBer that it was NOT a business band, it was a citizen's band, and I was a citizen. He called me a "loud mouthed white girl." I told him there were 116 other frequencies on his radio and he'd better find one (I had the 40 regular channels and upper and lower sideband, and if they subtracted channel 9 and its upper and lower plus the one I was using, it would give them 116 channels) There must have been something in my voice that conveyed all I was feeling because the channel was suddenly quiet (perhaps they were still counting on their fingers and toes.)

When I arrived home, I felt as tho steam was coming out of my ears, and I told my husband, who had been a ham operator since 1962, that I wanted to become a ham too. You could have knocked him over with a feather, but after we got the groceries in and put away, he went down the basement to dig out radio books for me, and the code trainer. And the rest is history! I am very grateful to those CBers because now I have my amateur license.
