I like several of those shows, NCIS and CSI are very good but I would have to give the edge to CSI: NY just because of the cast. The male and female leads, neither of which I can spell their names are very very good actors. Without A Trace is another good show. House, MD has to be the most intriguing show on network tv as far as I am concerned.

CSI:Miami for two reasons. 1. Caruso has long been a favorite actor of mine, long before NYPD Blue. 2. Who could rlesist Emily Proctor?

But your poll left out:

MSNBC, Fox News, CNN Headline News. I'm more of a news junkie.

I voted for the orignal CSI since I really do like that one. I guess being interested in Vegas (I visited there once, and it was an amazing place) the show is interesting to me to see all you see of Vegas. I have never seen the other CSI shows, but I would not mind watching them. When I watched the episode of CSI where they went to miami, I did indeed like the cast of CSI: Miami. I just don't get around to watching the show. I have never seen Navy: NCIS, Scrubs, or 24. I have watched Law and Order on various occasions and I like the show, but don't watch it much.

Between radio time and computer time there is not much time for TV. I have never been addicted to a TV show, and its rare that I make it a point to watch a program.

The only show that I have watched on that list is Law and Order -- but I don't know about there being three versions of law and order. I watched several episodes of "Law and Order" a long time ago, when Michael Moriarity was a feature. He was one of my favorite actors, AND I liked his politics..

Sadly, there is only one show that I watch these days: re-runs of "Everybody Loves Raymond".

I don't currently watch shows of that nature. I tend to alternate between TV Land, HGTV, The Food Channel, TLC, an occasional movie on one of the premium channels, The Weather Channel, and of course the local channels for news and weather. Occasionally I switch over to the "big dish" for something different. Between two dishes and over 1000 channels, it's hard to run out of things to watch. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Well with all the ADS.........Crawling Text......more ADS........Station Logos and logos identifying other logos some with flags...........that has forced me to basically stop watching most of the major TV stations for just about anything.

Such as FOX NEWS taking up 25% of your viewing area and then to top that off the waving flag "bug" at the top with the "live" LOGO.

Nope they have chased me off to AMC--TCM__TV land
History--Discovery and such. No more news including the locals ABC-NBC-CBS have no need for their scrolling--drooling--crawling Krap, in fact I decided NOT to buy an HDTV for that very reason.........unless I breakdown and just use it for DVD's.

DVD'S !! thats another gripe.......we pay top dollar for a DVD and they run us thru a barage of ads for other films and other stuff, etc etc. And then can't even forward out of it, they LOCK you out so you HAVE to watch their nonsense........just GIMMIE THE MOVIE !

Thats my 2¢, 73 Gary N2ACX

I agree with that, but much worse is the out and out ADS for crap when you pay 9-10 bux for a movie in the theatre!

I don't mind trailors, those are sorta fun, sorta get you in the "movie mood".

Otherwise, my favs arent on the list - Sci Fi Friday, consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galacta. All very well done, better then most of the Sci Fi channel fare.

For me, an ex-Navy guy, JAG was about the worst military style show on TV mainly because of it's lack of reality. #

I think one would be hard put to find a Jag lawyer that
1. is qualified to fly fighter jets
2. is underway Officer of the Deck qualified - surface
3. is underway Officer of the deck qualified - submarine

NCIS, on the other hand, does stay true to military realism 99% of the time.

*IF* I watch the "boob tube", it's usually the following:

The O'Relliey Factor. I like the reporting and commentary.

The History Channel.

The Science Channel

The National Geograhic Channel.

Maybe a good movie once and awhile.

TV... The great wasteland.

If it was not for my XYL, I probably would not even have had a TV in earlier years. #These days, with a wide-screen TV and a DVD player, the TV experience is much better.

I looked at the entire list and there was not a single program on it that I had watched even once! In the eighties I sometimes felt a little out of place when co-workers discussed the latest episode of the current hot TV show. I got over that however, and still don't watch much network TV.

Cable TV is the salvation of the medium. Channels that call themselves "networks" provide a much varied fare and make it more desirable to even have a TV. As I mentioned before, DVD and wide screen TV really make it worthwhile.

But, if the bands are open, give me the wide open #spaces of radio!

(Even if the bands are not open!)

Just get one of these multizone chinese or korean DVD players, you'll have this function override, as well as the macrovision override, as well as the zonage limitation override, you can play any disc from anywhere and copy it down to VHS without problem. (great for the kids movies, so they don't ruin those expensive DVD's)... and you don't get to see all this publicity and trailers crap http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

The basic prime-time tv show these days is geared toward 8 th grade intelligence ( if that high ).

Prime example --- LOST

40 folks have a plane crash on an " island " they dont know IF it is an island or just part of a bigger land mass since no one has walked AROUND far enough to know if it IS an island.

So about 4 - 6 folks walk one way along the beach ...another 4- 6 folks walk the opposite way along the beach.... they either meet again halfway around...or never meet again...or... find other people ?

How complicated is that ?

But you must remember that this is a " tv show "...not reality. If they get " found " then they are not " lost " any more and that is the end of that series.

That is all

1 and 2 together aren't all that unrealistic. #According to the storyline he cross-decked from aviator to JAG. #If he wanted to advance beyond straight flyer, he would have had to be underway OOD qualified. #To be CO of a carrier you need to be both aviation and surface warfare qualified. #Number 3 with the other two is unrealistic as he would never have had the time to obtain all three quals and get his law degree all before reaching the rank of LtCommander which was his rank at the start of the series. #The Navy also would not have let hm switch warfare specialties that many times. #But hey, why ruin a good storyline with reality #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I chose "none of the above" because I do not watch mainline prime time TV. I prefer historical and scientific programs, so most of my TV time is spent on The History Channel or the various Discovery channels. "Modern Marvels" should have been included in the poll.

I do not like the Military Channel. #I used to watch Discovery Wings channel a lot, but when they changed to the Military Channel, I stopped watching because they took most of my favorite programs off.

About the only time I watch Spike TV is when Star Trek is on, and maybe an occasional episode of Real TV and police chases. #Otherwise, no.

When I need my racing fix, I tune to Speed.

History Channel has a lot of good programs, including MY favorite program, Modern Marvels.

Discovery Channel is not like it used to be... they have too many home improvment programs and other stuff like "chopper" programs that I don't care too #much about. #Discovery has a Home Improvement channel, why can't they just put all that programming on there and bring back all the pure science stuff they used to have?

I like the Science Channel, but they repeat too much!

National Geographic channel is OK sometimes, but their environmental bent is too much for my taste.

I also like the arts, partiulcarly music, so for that I will tune to Ovation or BET Jazz, occasionally the PBS channels for "Live from Lincoln Center" and "Austin City Limits."

I watch SciFi sometimes, mainly for Battlestar Galactica, and occasionally a few good movies. #what we really need is a SciFi Classics channel. #Give me back my 1950's B sci-fi movies!

Gotta amend my earlier list of favorites to add MYTHBUSTERS. Great show, run by a pair of loonies who like to blow up things or make them go squish or crunch. This season, they have assembled a team of equally demented types to aid and abet the original pair in their paths of destruction. The chicken gun had to be one of the best they have done, tho the exploding breast implants and the hog left in the vette for weeks had their moments also.

And why,,,

Because it's about Giving. People helping people.
people DOING FOR OTHERS.

People making a DIFFERENCE
in people's lives

People that enjoy making a difference.
People giving of themselves.

And a show that's a whole HECK of a LOT
More worth watching then the rest of this Baloney

And

Indeed, there is. Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and Law and Order: Trial by Jury. My personal favorite of the three is SVU. But, my vote went for NCIS, because I believe that is the best show out there...

Hi guys,

When the golden age of CBS came to a close so did my viewing of network TV. That left me with Star Trek and Zacherle's whacky horror shows. You guys on the left coast had Elvira, hmmmm.

Along comes cable, sorry, like the man said, 57 channels and nothing on. By the time they had something worth watching it was infested with bugs that oddly go away when the Orkin Man shows up, then they come right back along with this crawly thing. Soooo, I tried Two Gun Goodman but while he was chasing spiders even more bugs showed up. OK, time for the heavyweights, spacemen with ray guns and giant monsters but even Godzilla couldn't get rid of them.

One consolation and something that thankfully has minimal infestation are the various learning channels. Gee, there's more off the coast where I live than I knew about, shipwrecks galore, a couple of Nazi subs and one American, a couple of locomotives and a big pile of NYC subway cars. Interestingly enough most are close by and the diving team is out of Manasquan, great shots of the inlet right up the street too.

"MYTHBUSTERS. Great show, run by a pair of loonies who like to blow up things or make them go squish or crunch."

You forgot my favorite, things that go BOOM. My favorite was that cement truck they vaporized just for fun.

"...and the hog left in the vette for weeks..." is what TV is all about, it STINKS.

Most of the time I get so involved with ham radio or the computer evening comes and goes while the TV remains off completely unnoticed. Back in the '60s Newton Minnow then chairman of the FCC called TV "a vast wasteland" and nothing much has changed.

OK, why are the vultures after our bands rather than broadcast TV frequencies reallocated to a service that makes sense like MORE HAM BANDS? Like Eddie Murphy used to say, "Things that make you say hmmmm.".

OK Eddie, 75M doesn't make sense to you either, but no TV means no TVI and we can blame it on the cable company. Hmmmm.

Hey Dave,

Do your teeth shatter when you grind them (from the cold)?

And I see it did not take you long to start busting my chops on the beautiful Southern California day. Think I am going to take my family to a beautiful restaurant on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu for lunch.

I'll be thinking about you up there.

Phew------I never go down on the LOWER channels. Except maybe, when I feel like slumming. Like a Roman Emporer who dresses up as a beggar and slithers around the back allies. Just to see what the common folk are REALLY saying about him. I guess my 6 history channels get the most use. I usually read a book simultaneously even then. Virtually no new movies are worth seeing, and I think I've about seen everything old.

Mother Angelica, re-runs of the news, and any movies starring Sheb Wooley. I also enjoy the old test patterns, the ones with the network initials in each corner.
It is getting harder and harder to find them these days, and when you DO, they are in COLOR, YUCK!

You know, there's really some excellent shows on TV at the moment. (Or at least when the fall season comes around.) My current mainstays are Deadwood, Battlestar Galactica, Curb Your Enthusiasm, the Office, Monk, 24 (even despite some looney right-wing episodes last season), coupled with the odd "guilty pleasure" reality show (right now: Hell's Kitchen). And I haven't even seen much of Lost or Rescue Me, amonsgt others that are receiving a lot of critical accolades.

I swear to god, TV is going through a renaissance. Sure, there's a lot of dreck, but there's also some simply outstanding shows out there.

I rarely watch tv, but one I don't miss at all was taken off years ago: The Flintstones. Good riddance! I could never comprehend why it was once such at hit. Evidently, the public eventually came around to my opinion of that show.
