Don't worry, there's at least a few of us. Also from Cheyenne and from the address in your listing about a mile or so from you.

ahh. nice. I know there are several hams that live in the sun valley area (look for the obvious ham antennas). W7GHH lives about 3 houses down from my XYLs best friend. I know most of the hams you commonly hear around here in person.

my house will be easy to spot before too long as some antennas will be going up once we get settled in (just moved into a bigger place)

Based on the availability of WY multipliers in some contests, you folks may have tripled the ham population of the place! Show up during the November Sweepstakes and expect small pileups.

there are a lot of operators in cheyenne. though it is typical of most places in that you dont hear much on the repeaters outside of commuting hours.

there is a tad under 2000 hams in the entire state iirc

So if we took a pole on just how many are in a tad could we call it the tadpole? #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Actually, yes there are many in the state. There are many in the Cheyenne area. I do not know most or even any of them but I do know they exist as I did a lot of database cruising while waiting for my callsign the first time around.

I am only home a couple of days each week and even that will be cut back for awhile but hope to be able to spend some time getting to know the local amateur community soon. I keep the radio scanning when in town but have never had enough time between stops while running errands to try and carry on a conversation.

Who knows, maybe I'll hear you on there sometime and at least key up long enough to say hello.

A couple of local amateur radio operators have suggested that I move to Wyoming.....

wyoming isn't a bad place to live.

cost of living is reasonable. there is no state income tax. little congestionm, CC&Rs are very rare. Definately a ham friendly state.

DLG the club in cheyenne (Shy-Wy ARC) meets 2nd tuesday of the month at the homeland security building (off of pershing right next to the cemetary) at 7PM. WX net is every morning at 6:45 on 147.105.

Im usually on after about 5:30pm or so when I get off of work. Normally on 146.775.

I moved from Casper about a year ago and really loved the independent spirit of the state and it's people. Almost no congestion on the roads, friendly people, and a can-do spirit.

The hams all cooperate and work together to accomplish something with less consternation that previous residences. You will enjoy Wyoming and it marvlous scenery, and those camping hamfests. Bring your gear to trade and spend the night in a tent. Seems as if that is in Curt Gowdy State Park near Cheyenne.

Have fun and join the AM crowd as well.

And not a better place or better way to live!

I have never seen a cow or antelope move into a state other than it's own and immediately start pushing for laws restricting everybody but themselves. When's the last time you have seen a place where people haven't done that?

several years ago, some people from the twin cities bought a house in cook, mn sight unseen except for pictures.

they moved up there and found that their immediate neighbor owned a logging company that was based off his property in cook.

the new people started whining to the city council about all the noise, diesel exhaust, unsightly equipment, etc.

thew city council told them that the logger had been born and raised there, employed a lot of local people and brought a good chunk of money into the local economy !

anyone care to guess who sold out very quickly and went elsewhere to establish their social paradise ? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Wow, A wyoming post and I didn't jump in? Whats wrong with me. Anywho here I am. One of many hams in this great state. I actually just got to see many antelope and deer. I also had an unfortunate (almost) run in with a rattle snake. About 830 pm I was hiking along a certain poorly named creek when I saw a small snake coiled up. Thought it was a garter but the coloring was too patterned and colored. Turned out to be a baby rattle snake and behind it was a den of about 10 or 11. Of course I poked it to show my hiking partner (not a country person) what snakes do when mad. It put on a little show and rattled its miniscule rattler. Decided to leave it be and go about my business. Thought about catching it and raising it but the cats may not like that.
