I understand why N5JOB feels the way he does, but I don't agree with him on the point of sending in his ticket.
# JOB you lose, your cutting off your nose to spite your face.
# In the mid 90's I went to a local club and took the test to upgrade to Extra, I passed the test no problem and received a cscc.
# Two days later I got a phone call that my paper work was lost and my upgrade was no good. I went to a club meeting to find out what happened and found out my paper work was the only papers lost.
# #Mad hell yes, FCC would not do squat about it,ARRL will take money for dues, but don't ask them to look into a problem like this.
# #Just last year I found out that one of the VE's pitched my paper work because years before I asked his son to curb is fowl language at a field day event and young children and women were close by.
# #So after finding out what happened and this person is no longer involved with this club I decide to get a current book and take the test again.
# #I encountered 2 people that should not give a test, doubt if they could pass it themselves, I heard so much BS that I could not believe what I was hearing.
# #These people were just plain and simple ripping off new people, the class they held was the biggest joke I ever saw, Lab fees for things they never got and what these new people were taught was pure BS, a monkey on prozac could have taught newbies better.
# #My point is the VE system sucks, atleast around here. If you know someone you get a test a dead fish could pass, if your liked you got your ticket no matter what you do on a test, if you are disliked you fail or papers are lost or pitched even if you got 100% on the test.
# #Did I mention both of these people have spent time in the rubber room if you get my drift, not rumor, pure fact. and these are the people signing off on licenses.
# #I saw with my own eys, the son of a VE fail and then a group talk in back of the room, the same kid taken into a room with 1 VE and came out with a Novice ticket, he could not copy any CW nor did he know most of what was on the test, amazing what taking a test in a room does for you.
# #The system is screwed, but in spite of that I would not and am not going to give up my ticket. Some day #some time down the road I figure I will do my upgrade to Extra, but until then it will be a cold day in hell before I give up my ticket because of a bunch of idiots.

So did you write a letter to the FCC with names and callsigns of the offending VE's?

They do something, but it has to be a reasonable letter with something that can be substantiated.

Not to be a smart aleck, but have you considered going to another town nearby and taking the test ? You would eliminate all the " bad guys at the local place " and still advance yourself, and there would not be a darm thing they could do about it..

It would be well worth the EXTRA effort.

Good luck

Did that, and letters were sent to the VE's and they didn't recall the mishap, but I still have the cscc and a copy was sent with my letter of protest.

All I got back was the VE's involved did not recall the lost papers.

I will do that when I can, but since this has happened a old health issue has reared its ugly head and I am having a problem finding a test site with wheel chair access.
# I will get it done.

That's unusual. Most sites have to have handicap access and most do that I have encountered. I would attempt to contact some clubs around the area or outside the area and find one that can accommodate you. I am certain special provisions can be made in any situation if such access is not already in place. GL!

Hello
most tests around here
are done in public schools
which all have wheelchair access

call around
there are ve's

that will help you find
test place
which has wheelchair access

at worst some will
make appointment
and come to your house
to give you the test

yours truly

Thought this topic was over. What happened? Other post get locked down or just seemed like a good topic to "beat your dead horse?" http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Ok, this is the third place I've found this very same post. How much bandwidth and hard drive space are you going to hog up with this?

Your friend Rich monjure took himself out of the game. #He did not want to participate and seems to have difficulty coping with a broad range of situations. #Rich should speak for himself or you should let him fade away as he desired.

Not all features of QRZ.Com are restricted to currently licensed radio amateurs. #We see posts often from individuals who hope to have their license soon. #Would be hams learn and grow from their experiences here. #Former hams may also post here if that is their wish. #

This will have to be the longest running thread. Almost as bad as the code vs. hate code discussions. God, did that get old.

Mebbe Richard should take a NCT test, pass it and then get a whole new callsign and then he wont have to go through some one else to make a post here on QRZ.

But then, he may have difficulty passing the NCT test..........?

I will help him all I can !! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The funniest (?) response to ALL the JOB-quitting posts was the fellow who posted something to the effect: I'm not going to force you to stay in ham radio.

Darn. I really wanted to find out how he was gonna force N5JOB to stay in ham radio. And I did remind JOB that he should send that fellow a thank you note for *not* forcing him to stay.

The rest of this has been a complete waste of space, my own postings included, which, like this one, came from boredom, while my computer does something else for me. My own space-wasting. Probably a lot of others did, too!

I think it's time to appoint a proxy poster for me when I am a silent key. Anyone up for the job? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
